Joan Settlemlre Don Nuckolls Beverly Everett Ann Lowe Presldent V1ce Presldent Secretary Treasurer 1950 means more than Just the half century mark to our sen1ors To them It means the close of four of the most wonderful years of the1r lives So that you may share the1r memor1es w1th them lets turn the clock back Lo the1r freshman year We see a group of scared green kldS begmnlng the flrst adventure of the1r hlgh school days They proved the1r poss1b111t1es by present1ng a successful Swlmmlhg party at the end ot the year As vxvaclous sophomores they helped to ra1se the school splrlt to a hlgher standard than ever before lhey presented the football team w1th one of 1ts great stars fleet footed Earl Colwell The1r sophomore hop was more than Just a trad1t1on It was a dream world of MUSICBI Notes wh1ch drlfted through a ce1l1ng of sus pended crepe paper Startmg off the1r Jumor year Wlth a bang they sponsol ed a dance the fxrst week of school A v1gorous magazme selhng campa1gn contrxbuted to the fmancmg ot one of the hlgh spots of the year the Jumor senlor prom Much tlme and effort was spent 1n brlnglng th1s event held at the El R10 Country Club to the 1949 Senlors the memorles of wh1ch we know w1ll always be treasured by all who attended A hay r1de at Tucson MOUHt31H Park ended th1s eventful year Th1s sen1or class was 1n a way dlfferent from the precedmg classes It was the f1rst senlor class 1n the hxstory of Amph1 to elect a glrl pres1dent Under the leadersh1p of Joan Settlemlre the sen1ors accompl1shed many thmgs She was ably alded by the other sen1or class offlcers VICE pres1dent Don Nuckolls secretary Beverly Everett and treasurer Anne Lowe The sen1ors proudly presented Amph1 w1th 1tS flrst All Arnerlcan football star 1n the form of zany Bob Hart He contrlbuted to a V1ctory over Tucson Hlgh wh1ch was consxdered the most unexpected upset of the year 1n the state In December the sen1ors presented the faculty w1th an mformal farewell Chrlstmas party that was enjoyed by everyone Shufflmg of dancmg feet gay volces ra1sed 1n the tradxtlonal smgmg of carols were the farmhar sounds commg from th1s party They had taken the1r long awalted Dltch Day planned by a well chosen commlttee under the d1rect1on of Frank Gastelum w1th Shxrley Humphrey Dorothy R1cl1ard son Mary Bellmger Sarah Sm1th Joan Settlemlre and Esther Knopf assxstlng Memor1es of th1s glor1ous day at El Canto Park 1n Phoenlx wxll be cherxshed ones for everyone had a wonderful tune Some Just loafed under the huge shade trees on the oh so green lawn others went canoemg on the cool 1nv1t1ng water swxmmlng was taboo but a few sen1ors went 1n unoff1c1ally athletxc games were enjoyed by all along w1th var1ous programs of dlfferent k1nds In order to pay for that wonderful d1tch day a senlor class play called Only An Orphan Gxrl a melodrama complete wlth v1lla1n and hero was presented under the d1rect1on and superv1s1on of Peter Overson and L1ll1an Cooper Elght sen1ors part1c1 pated 1n the play wlth everyone else contr1but1ng some k1nd of talent There were all k1nds of acts 1mag1nable goxng on between the scenes of the play Barber shop quartets can can dances flora dora dances duets and solos f11led the 1nterm1ss1o1 All the sen1ors worked together mak1ng the play successful and pI'0V1dll'1g fun and entertamment Now as they march down the a1sle to start on the1r Journey 1nto l1fe they are W1Sh9d a fond farewell bv the1r old alma mater Sponsors And then one day, somethying was missing from school.
