KW fp e-..-Qiw Q K Q'?iqQmm5Q CLASS HISTCRY Freshmen After our Journey through the Grades ard JUFIOP Hlgh, we the Class of '49, began the upward trall throu r n1gh school Our f1rst year as Freshmen we had ten Prospectors Cboysl and s1xteen Gold dlggers Kg1rlsJ, maklrg a total of twenty SlX borty h1D8PS 1D the covered wagon By tD1S tlme it was Det tlng rather crowded but we manager to make room for two new members Burneda Brown and Connle Cress To command our wagon thls year we elected lommy Crews, Pres1dent, Anne larley, V1ce Pres1dent, waur1ce Bombel, secretary and Trea surer, and Dav1d Bolles, as Reporter r kerhlnger, our sporsor, was to protect us from Indlar 8ttaLKb wowever, he fa1led DlS duty, ror or sept 14, we were attacked by the sophomores who throughly 1n1t1ated us 1nto Hlgh School Our ooys wore glPlS bathlng Sulto, gum boots, bathlng caps and ralncoats on backwards fney carrled an lnnertube and the1r lunch on a St1CK wrapped 1D a red bandana The g1PlS wore Ind1an blankets, thelr ha1r ln a knot on top w1t1 feathers 1n lt, men's work shoes slze 10 on the wrong feet, and a doll able bophomoresn gave a party for us and the hlgh school mveryone enyoyed the entertalnment and del1c1ous refreshments It seems that tnls year our Forty NIHEPS became lDVOlVed 1n many squabbles durlng class meet1n5s and could come to no d8C1S10DS on a party, but we dld learn the proper proceduneof a class meetlng from kr M9DP1De6P CIt says here D Two t the few d8C1810HS that we did reach were to have green and whlte as our class colors, and Vlrglnla atrahl and alberta Booty as our class Yell leaders nO1S Frlstche, Tom mcCaamack, Harold Appleoate, and Alberta Elliott were ln the band and helped make muslc for our covered wagon we also engoyed the entertalnmert pro vlded by our magorettes, wargorle beller, Ruth harley, ulendllne Hubble, and Mary Hanlor we engoyed many excltlng sports th1s year, and were very proud of our Prospector ', who part1c1pated ln baseball, b sketoall, and YPSCK e were very d1sa:oo1rted that no class tourney was held thlb year Bel1ev1nb to have struck a gold mlne Cof knowledgel, we declded to pltch camp tlll September CQ 2' Z-TIE 652223-725 cf? Q xgmmC'Q T Sophomore With twenty two Forty Miners on board the covered wagon started on its trip through the second year of high school de hit several bumps this year and lost Marion Luttrell, David Belles and Burneda Brown Marjorie Feller, who had been living at Terre Haute, climbed on board with us at the first six weeks period President and Student Council member, Maurlce Bombei, was driving the cove ed wagon Ruth Anne Marley, Vice Pr sident Martha Salsman, Secretary and Treasurer, and Tommy Crews, reporter all helped to do their part Of course Miss Gurnsey, our sponsor was seeing that we d1dn't drive too fast e initiated the Freshman class in properC9D manner, September 20th The Freshies were each dressed differently Some of tne boys were really date bait ln two piece bathlng sults, shorts, or nightgowns The girls wore long under wear, overalls, or funny sacks, etc The party which we gave for the Fresnles that nigut vas a gr a success had each rrc hie make a speech and hold a hugh niece of ice at the same time hr Truax directed our games for us, and we had delicious refreshments at the enl of the even ng The Forty Nlners were very active in sport this year Harold Applegate, Tom xctam ack, and George Arche played on t e firstteam in basketball and Tommy Crews, Maurice Bombei, Connie oress, Leon Buls, and Vernon Kersey played on the second team Mary Hanlon was one of the yell leaders and represented our class in thls way In the class tourney Sophomores, And the latter team won the tourney duth Anne Marley and xyrna Logue were our class fell leaders for this event several of our Gold Diggers attended the Play Day at Canterbury Gym and enjoyed the activltes there At the beginn1ng Ol our journey each Prospector and Gold Digger had chosen tne veins lclassesl fro Jhich he w nted to OOt8lW bds olden knowledce Fhose 1 o vere brave e ouch to down the Latin tlass found that lt :ds dot so had as they expected Ne made and furnlsded m1n1a ur Roman houses and held a donan Banquet, similiar isdn os dlyl to those held in Rome LO see :ho would be masters and slaves . 1 ii' X O I . .
