Willenbrock D Mierez B Pescitelli R Gomez, Mr. Forman The 1976-77 varsity soccer team, coached by Mr. Ralph Forman, seemed headed for a dismal season, fielding a young squad with just two starters back from last years team. An example of how young the team was, is the fact that two freshman started every game. The season started out great and before the team realized it, they were the only team in Suffolk county that had not lost a game. But with just five games remaining, Amityville suffered its first loss. In this game against John Glen, the teams goalie, Keith Little, was lost for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. Bruce Pescitelli did a great job guarding the nets for the rest season. The regular season ended with a 8-3-2 record, just one game out of first place. This was good enough for spot in the county playoffs, the second year in a row that the Warriors participated. In the first round of play, the team defeated Wm. Floyd by a score of 2-1. North Babylon, the eventual L.I. champs, were the Warriors next opponent. They proved to be too strong for the young squad as the game was lost, marking the end of a very successful year. With a little talent and a lot of Warrior spirit, the team felt that they accomplished a great deal. Five members of the team were selected to the League Five All Star Teams . Joe Hauswirth and Ian Mierez were selected to All-league 2nd team, Keith Little, Rich Williams and Lester Mays were chosen to the All-league lst team, Williams was also selected to the All County team. Keith Little set a record for the most saves in one game with 35 against Bellport. Ian Mierez led the team in scoring with nine goals. By vote of the team members, Rich Blaustein, Keith Little, Rich Williams and Lester Mays were elected as the team captains. A special addition to the team was the play of Amityville's foreign exchange students, Domingo Crizul and Mike Korduner.
