Row 1, Left to Right: P. Reyman, T. Tai, R. Lee, P, Dunleavy Row 2: R. D'Alessio, M. O'Ne1ll R Schlmger R Williams Row 3: R. Ebner, J. Porr, J. Hauswirth, M. Boyle, M. Luba The Wrestling team, was a team that will long be remembered by the wrestlers. The matmen were predicted to come in second to last place, but instead took the league championship. The conference and Shoreline cham- pionships also belonged to this team. In December, the matmen hosted the second annual Amityville Invitational Tournament. Four Amityville wrestlers made it to the finals, and all four were champions. They were Rich D'Alessio, Jim Porr, Joe Hauswirth and Rob Ebner. Rich Williams took a third and Bill Nelson took a fourth. The Tide grapplers then traveled to Half Hollow Hills for the HHH Christmas Tournament. Three wrestlers, Rich Williams, Rich D'Alessio, and Joe Hauswirth, grabbed second place honors. Rob Ebner grabbed third and Tyrone Tai took fourth. --In January, the matmen traveled upstate to compete in the Shoreline Tournament, featuring 24 of the top wrestling teams in the area. In this tourney, Ebner placed fourth, Rich Williams and Jim Poor took thirds, Hauswirth placed second and Rich D'Alessio and Matt Boyle both took first places. The entire team showed how well they could wrestle, as they brought the championship trophy back to Amityville. The following week brought a tough match against undefeated Islip. The Tide proved to be too strong, handing Islip its first loss and moving Amity into a tie for first place. One of the most exciting matches of the year came the following day, a match against a strong Riverhead team. With the match half way over the Tide grapplers found themselves well behind and headed for a loss. But with big wins by Porr, Luba and Boyle, Riverhead's lead was cut down to just four points. One bout remained as Amityville needed a big win from Ebner to pull off a victory. Ebner won his match by a score of 24- 10, giving the matmen enough points for a 25-24 victory. In the final match of the year, Amityville faced Lindenhurst who was ranked 8th in the county. The wrestlers went in with a strong desire to win as it was the last match for the seniors. The final outcome was a 26-20 victory for Amityville. Throughout the season the Tide showed spirit and a strong desire to win. It all payed off as the wrestlers finished with a 12-2 record. At the end of the season, the wrestlers competed in the conference tournament. Taking first place in this tourney was Rich D'Alessio, a second place was won by Matt Boyle, third by Joe Hauswirth and a fourth by Rich Williams. The following week the wrestlers competed in counties, where Matt Boyle took a fourth place.
