The Student Council is M.L.S.'s hard-working student
government. During the year, this organization sponsored
the annual football and basketball banquets, the Sweet-
heart Dance, Seniors of the Month, and the school
elections. The group also sold Comet sweatshirts, edited
the students' Comet Handbook, bought letters for the
schedule-of-event sign, and hosted meetings of the
Lakeland Conference Student Council for which Tim
Nagy was president. For the gym, the Council purchased
pennants representing the Lakeland Conference schools.
The laudable work of the Student Council under the
direction of its advisors, Mr. lngraham and Mr. Batcha,
has done much to improve the standards of M.L.S.

The purpose of FTA is to -gain practical experience in the
field of teaching. This was accomplished mainly by allowing the
members of FTA to assist the teachers at Powers School.
With Mrs. Smith serving as the advisor, the members of FTA
sold book covers, sponsored- a dance, toured the Cleveland
Public Library and the Akron Bindery, and went to Baldwin-
Wallace College for FTA Day. The year was highlighted by the
annual Christmas luncheon which was held at the aquarnarine.
