"Nine Girls," a spineftlngling murder mystery involving college sorority
sisters, was the spring play presented hy the Dramatics Club at the Middle Ridge
Playhouse. This was the group's first attempt at producing a play arena style.
Under the direction of Mrs. jenkins, the Dramatics Club met for meetings every
other Wednesday' night after school. The group was quite active this year with
an interesting and varied program. The cluh was led and encouraged hy the
Thespians. jackie Mazurek, as president, capably "ran the show" and kept meetings
lively and fun. Other officers were jerry Chonko, secretary: Boh Koontz, trcasurerg
and Alice Gould, clerk.
The main event of the first semester was the staging of "White Lightingf

In February, many of the memhers learned speeches of various sorts for the
annual speech contests. Both Mrs, jenkins and Mrs. Egeland spent hours after
school rehearsing with students on dramatic and humorous speeches as well as
poetry readings. At the speech events at Vermilion and at Huron, Amherst placed
second. Contestants who won first and second places in the district represented
Amherst in the state finals in Columhus: Leroy Schroeder competed in original
oratoryg Joyce Penny, in extemporaneous speaking: and Boh Koontz, in dramatic
reading.
For the Lakeland Conference Festival the Dramatics Cluh presented the
onefaet play "Pink and Patches".
