"Nine Girls," a spineftlngling murder mystery involving college sorority sisters, was the spring play presented hy the Dramatics Club at the Middle Ridge Playhouse. This was the group's first attempt at producing a play arena style. Under the direction of Mrs. jenkins, the Dramatics Club met for meetings every other Wednesday' night after school. The group was quite active this year with an interesting and varied program. The cluh was led and encouraged hy the Thespians. jackie Mazurek, as president, capably "ran the show" and kept meetings lively and fun. Other officers were jerry Chonko, secretary: Boh Koontz, trcasurerg and Alice Gould, clerk. Both Mrs, jenkins and Mrs. Egeland spent hours after school rehearsing with students on dramatic and humorous speeches as well as poetry readings. At the speech events at Vermilion and at Huron, Amherst placed second. Contestants who won first and second places in the district represented Amherst in the state finals in Columhus: Leroy Schroeder competed in original oratoryg Joyce Penny, in extemporaneous speaking: and Boh Koontz, in dramatic reading. Seniors inducted into the group were Janice Mulder, Frank DeSantis, Sue Mortimer, Glenn Schneider, jean Wztgiier, Natalie Mackie, Richard Pool, jackie Mazurek, Nancy Loken, Larry Payne, Shirley O'dor, and jim Ingrassiaz and juniors elected to membership were Betty Ohenour, Alice Gould, Sharon Brooks, and Cathy Kane. For the induction service, the torch was lighted by Mr, Sutton, and the cmhlem was explained by Mrs. Wiiigate. The candles signifying scholarship, character, service, and leadership were lighted hy Peg Getty, Karen Thutt, Louise Wetiiier, Ricky Oliver, Tony Trifiletti, and Doug Cope members who were elected to membership in the National Honor Society during their junior year.
