-DRAMATIC -
Under the direction of Mrs. Egeland, the
dramatics department of 1946 had a very suc-
cessful year. On November 15 and 16, the stu-
dents presented "Snafu" fsituation normalg all
fouled upl a timely play portraying the trials
of a fifteen-year-old sergeant 4Pete Darakish
just returned from the Pacific Theatre of war.
Yes, that was the production in which the
chimney collapsed during the first night's per-
formance. In the spring the drama classes
staged "Death Takes a Holiday" and "New
Fires?
For the Christmas Chapel the department
did Dieke+ns's "Christmas Carol." In this pres-
entation, Floyd Lodge made a very convincing
Scrooge.
The first division ot' the drama department
fouiztd success in a number of one-act plays.
lf! j ll
lil
the foremost of which was 'tDon't Feed the
Animals." Bob Washka starred as "the animal."
One of the most enjoyable assignments of the
year was going into Cleveland to see various
plays. Some which groups of students from
the department saw were "The Tempest," star-
ring Vera Zorinag the same "Snafu" that we
gave: the outstanding play cf 1945, "A Bell for
Adano"g the renowned "Oklahoma"g the mod-
ernized version of "Antigone" with Katherine
Cornell in the leading role.
All in all ,the dramatics classes had a lot of
glory this year, but they do want everyone to
know that they wish to sha1e that glory with
Mrs. Baesel of the Art Department and other
members of the faculty. who helped greatly in
making the year a profitable one.

t'Oh my, I'll have to do it all over again," is
a common complaint of the student secretaries.
The future typists and clerical workers pre-
pare for office positions by working for the
teachers. They gain experience in all kinds
of business procedure: they take dictation,
compose letters, type, mimeograph, and do
numerous other duties. An ininovation this
year is the use of the dictaphone.
The secretaries are rotated in the middle of
the year, in order to equalize the work. At
the end of the first semester the girls' hearts
were all a-flutter when they heard that three
new young men teaches would be needing sec-
retaries, but the "flutter" soon diminished
when the work began to pour in.
The secretaries are as follows: V. Holsted, A.
Jackson, L. Adler, C. Menz. A. Starner, P. Wav-
rick, R. Thomas, F. Nahm, F. Haas, B. Carr,
M. Webster, D. Sandeuls, P. Ward, R. Schwitzke,
G. Koepp, R. Walker, T. Baxter, L. Deidrick,
P. Connell, G. Huey, J. Baucom, M. Kerti, C.
Barck. Mrs. Simpson is the teacher in charge.

ANIIIERST-41 LORAIN-40
The Amherst High cagers established a repu-
tation for fast, smart ball-handling by defeating
the Lorain Steeleis in their opening game of
the season, 41-40. The Comets showed much
promise, beating the visitors with a devastating
passing attack. This game pried the lid off the
'45-'46 sea.on, a season in which the Comets
played twenty scheduled games.

AMHERST-49 CLEARVIEWV 34
Playing their last game under the direction
of "Cap" Deeds, the Amherst quintet sought
and found revenge for last year's losses by
defeating Clearview on the local hadwood.
"Cap" left Amherst after the Clearview game
to accept a position as Lorain County Agricul-
ture Extension Agent. Mr. Deeds took with
him the best wishes of the entire school.
AMHERST-68 WELLINGTON-44
After trailing 21-9 at the first quarter, the
cagers of A. H. S. came back to snatch victory
from defeat, by outscoring Wellington in the
th.ee remaining periods. Russ Dodson was
the bright spot of the evening as he dumped
in 14 field goals and 3 foul shots for a total of
31 points -f just two poigts shy of Braun's
record.
AMHERST-46 ROVVE-36
Followed by an enthusiastic caravan of Am-
herstite , the Comets trekked over to Kent State
Univesity at Kent, Ohio, to play in the gemi-
final round of the district tournament at Willis
Gymnasium. In their match against a highly-
touted Conneaut Rowe team, the men of Coach
Thomas racked up their twenty-third Victory
out of 24 starts, as they dumped off the Con-
neaut combine. 46-36. This victory qualified
the Comets for the finals against Akron Ellet,
ri sliady but not flashy outfit,
