H1-Y Activities of the Hi-Y this year have been civic as well as social. The club has aimed to serve both the community and the school. Last fall the boys passed out literature to persuade the people of Amherst to vote for the school tax levy. During the basketball season the club issued programs, sold candy, and announced the games. At Christmas they painted religious pictures on some of the school windows and collected books for the library at Pleasant View Sanatorium. Student Councll l..i'l Abner Day was an innovation at A. H. S. this year. The Student Council was responsible for that gala occasion. The student governing body also took charge of arrangements for the Defense Bond and Stamp Day in the fall. B, NVith', D. Kurafil. Dramatics Department The first quarter of the year the dramatics classes spent in studying the history of the theater. Near Christmas time the two classes combined to present Youth Takes Over. This play, which -,. ran for two nights, provided many hearty guffaws before the cle- g, 'jj nouement. kJ The first division gave It Happened in Bethlehem for K.. Christmas chapel. ln February the dramatics department offered a program of one-act plays. March saw the department working diligently on in- terpretive readings. These selections were given at chapels and on other occasions. h The second division of the class supplied many of the cast for the Senior Class Night play, Listen, Mister Speaker! ln the course of the year various members of the classes saw Joan of Arc, Claudia, i'Arsenic and Old Lace and Macbeth, experiences which thoroughly rounded out a successful year.
