The faces on these pages are familiar to all of us.
We are with them everyday. Our teachers have the
sometimes difficult task of imparting some of their
knowledge to us. We will always be grateful for
the ir patience and cooperation as we put to work
that which we have learned from them.

Our first class project

FOOTBALI
The football teamwas not very successful this year as
they won only two games while losing seven, but they were
our team and represented us, Donald J. Z abr i ski e took
over as head coach in the spring of 1956, as sisted by
Robert Kozacka and Norman Gautreau. Along with our new
coach came a new system, multiple offense, and new red
and white uniforms.
Ame sbury started the 1956 season in a bad way,
dropping the first two games to Marblehead and Winthrop.
The Indians improved rapidly, and defeated St. John's Prep
of Danvers, a new foe, 12-6.
Amesbury lost its next three encounters to Stoughton,
Sw a mp s c o tt , and Woburn. The te am managed to hold
Swampscott, the highest scoring team in the Northeastern
Conference, to just twelve points.
Amesbury defeated Class B Lynn Classical 18-6. On
the following Saturday Amesbury lost to Danvers in sub-
freezing temperatures.

The 1957 Amesbury High S c ho ol hockey team
turned in its third successful season under the gui-
dance of Coach Albert J.Roy. Amesbury won eleven,
lost seven, and tied one during the '56-'57 season.
Successful as the record may seem, we still missed
the North Shore Playoffs by one point.
In North Shore c ompe tition the Indians won
seven, lost six, and tied one. Outside the league we
lost only to S to neham and Notre Dame of Berlin,
posting a record of four wins against two losses.
At the annual banquet Captain Cressy announced
Leo Dupere as next year'scaptain. Both the captain
and the captain-elect have been outstandingg each has
received his letter each year since his second year
of school boy competition.

presented to underclassmen Stan Andrews, Bill Cote, Leo

Dupere and Roy were selected for the annual North

Bond in action in All -Star Game.
The Ame s b ur y High basketball team was
not very successful in the win and lose columns,
but next year can be looked upon with great
optimism. Bond, Labbe , and Rousseau are the
only lettermen graduating.
The team's record for the past season was
4 wins again s t 14 losses. Amesbury defeated
Danvers and Woburn in Northeastern Conference
play, andNewburyport and Exeter in non-confer-
ence games. The two wins over Danvers and
Wobu rn entitled Amesbury to 5th place in the
final conference standings.
Any win o ve r Newburyport is exciting and
this year provided no exceptions. The Indians
turned back one of Newburyport's best teams in
years, in overtime, 44 to 39. This win accompa-
nied with another overtime win over Woburn, 44
to 42, demonstrated the spirit and determination
of our team. Win or lose, the members fought to
the final buzzer. As the scores show , it was a
fine team.
The C la s s of 1957 was represented on the
team by Captain Bond, Gerald Labbe, and Robert
Rousseau. Although th e y were few in number,
they played a major role throughout the season.
Bond and Rousseau represented Amesbury in the
Northeastern Conference All Star Game played
in Amesbury. Conference c h a m p i o n Winthrop
defeated the All Stars by a score of 59 to 56.
Ni
Almost.
At the close of the season Gordon Pike and
Ralph DiVito were elected as co-captains of the
'57-'58 edition of Amesbury basketball. Letters
we r e awarded to: Captain Bond, R. Rousseau,
G. Labbe, J. Buzzell, R. DiVito, G. Pike, R.
Sawyer, R. Young, D. Lahait, and L. Bunnell.

Starting its first sea son under Coach
Arthur Joub e r t , the Amesbury High Baseball
Team was unfortunately not very successful, as
they lost e lev en g a m e s while winning four.
They def e at e d two Northeastern Conference
teams, Woburn and Winthrop, and two non con-
ference teams, Exeter Academy and Ipswich.
Credit must be given to Captain Butland for
he caught r egula rly for three years and was
captain for two years.
Seniors Labbe, Dow, Harris, Cressy, and
Burnham also played regularly this season and
were awarded their letters.
Co-captain elect DiVito obtained the highest
batting av e r a g e on the team and also the best
total run p r o duction. Senior first baseman
Labbe possessed the best fielding average while
being the second best batter.
At the close of the season the team honored
Ralph DiVito and Leo Dupere by electing them
co-captains, DiVito has played varsity for four
years and Dupere has played varsity for three
years.
Next year should prove to provide a much
better s ea s on, for all the pitchers will be re-
turning, plus many other underclassmen.

Captain Andrews shows good form.
The 1957 Amesbury High track team proved
to be the best in the history of the school, as it
won8 dual meets and the finalNortheastern Con-
ference Meet. Spirit, teamwork, and hard work
for four years led up to this fine season. The
victories of CoachFecteau and his team brought
to Amesbury High the two Northeastern Con-
ference title s of most dual meets won and the
winner of the all-conference-teams meet.
Six school records were broken as Ames-
bury swept through its opponent s , and all of
them were broken by underclassmen. Bob
Martin set two records, the 100 yd. dash in 10.1
seconds falso the Northeastern Conference re-
cordj and the 220 yd. dash in 22.45 seconds.
Skip Watkins set a record for the 880 with a
fine time of 2 minutes 8.9 seconds. Freshman
Get set.
Dave Cote gets ready.
Louis Bunnell and Sophomore Dave Lahait com-
bined for a record high jump of 5' 6". ln the
shot put, Eric Lifton set another record with a
heave of 42' l 3f4". To climax this string of
records broken, the c rack relay team of Cap-
tain Stan Andrews, Don Marble, Ed. Batal, and
Dave Lahait ran the relay in a record time of
1 minute 38.9 seconds.
The seniors were represented on the team
by Jim Rogers, Mike Wexler, Andy Fortin, and
Dennis Donahue . Rogers and Wexler were
awarded letters and sweaters at the end of the
season. Returning lettermen will include Cap-
tain Andr ew s, Batal, Lifton, Martin, Marble,
Watkins, Bob Y oung, Art Bourgeois, Dud Sar-
gent, Bunnell, and Cote.
What's so funny, Don?
