B he ‘Imaginary Invalid’ was one of the funniest shows that I’ve ever seen,” said Sandy Daulton, senior. “The costuming was excellent and the portrayal of the characters was fantastic.” The play, which was written and set in the late 17th century, drew two nearly full houses in its run of three nights. Kelley Farrar played Argan, a rich Frenchman who thought he had every known disease (plus a few others.) In order to defray medical expenses he decided to have his daughter Angelica (Lisa Paulsen) marry Dr. Thomas Diaforus (John Hatten), a blundering half wit. Angelica, however, had other notions in mind, for she was in love with Cleante (Kent Varnum.) With a little help from the clever maid Toinette (Nancy Weiss) and Argan’s brother Beralde (Chris Shires), Argan was ultimately convinced that he could become a doctor himself, and finally allowed Angelica to marry Cleante. The style and period of the play were emphasized by the rich velvet costumes, designed and made by crew-heads Lisa Paulsen and Nancy Weiss.
