E. ION ve before Christmas on their pilgrimage to Chicago, There they toured music companies, took in some culture, and, as Sharon Cook said, “were allowed to explore Chicago on our own.” They returned home, walking zombies from all the activities, but much richer for the experiences. Obviously, the orchestra rats have had a busy year, and despite their lack of size, they still have made their presence Known. Sarah Bro said, “We wanted to make the year something to be remembered and respected by the underclassmen.” Above Left: CHAMBER CONCENTRATION. During the spring concert, Jon Randolf plays his french horn. though orchestra was not noted for its impressive size, it was noted for its character as a group ... “The people in orchestra not only play together, but they live together as well. Orchestra is a kind of life in itself.” said Senior Jim Friedrich. This life was not only a serious performing life, but also a light, enjoyable life. However, orchestra music isn't the only thing on the members” minds. They also spent the year preparing for the All State Orchestra auditions, selling “Benlee's Fruit of the Month of December,” preparing solos and ensembles for the State Music Contest, as well as celebrating many festivals and special occasions, such as National Frump Week, Festival, Baseball-head day, or the Hipp-Less Festival. SarahThe Liver-lips Bro explained: “It was just our way of celebrating any blah day.” Kathrin Lassila added, “They were the BEST.” The members also spent several days “rats” in orchestra وو

The experience, as Greg Daley said, “was invaluable.” Meanwhile, the Stage Band, backed by a “fantastic” rhythm section, produced music that Pianist Mike Loos described as “not close enough for jazz - it is jazz.” This group, made up of the finest musicians available, produced a well-liked sound .. really “got down.” Obviously these groups and others, the Dixieland Band, Pep Combo, and Jazz Ensemble to name only a few, all showed the quality and importance of the band department. As senior Lumpy (James M.) Oschwald quipped, “Band is the most practical subject | have on my schedule.” Left: UP AGAINST THE WALL. Pep Combo members Linda Liming, Jim Corbett, and Linda Liming fire up a crowd at one of the many pep assemblies. his was to be only a rebuilding year for the Bands, yet these outstanding musicians surprised everyone with their best year yet. Led by drum majors Reggie Harrington and Dave Hansen, the marching band had some very excellent performances, despite some very cold weather. Although larger than ever before, it sacrificed no quality because of its immense size. Drummer John Larkins commented, “This was the best band we've ever had ... the organization and pride were much stronger this year. The Concert and Varsity Bands upheld this tradition of excellence, accomplishing more than most critics expected. The music these two groups produced was often Tee TE REIR o یک‎ DEE ماع و‎ om CO ATA v 4:9 ٣٤ = e وس ہہ‎ E.
