The experience, as Greg Daley said, “was invaluable.” Meanwhile, the Stage Band, backed by a “fantastic” rhythm section, produced music that Pianist Mike Loos described as “not close enough for jazz - it is jazz.” This group, made up of the finest musicians available, produced a well-liked sound .. really “got down.” Obviously these groups and others, the Dixieland Band, Pep Combo, and Jazz Ensemble to name only a few, all showed the quality and importance of the band department. As senior Lumpy (James M.) Oschwald quipped, “Band is the most practical subject | have on my schedule.” Left: UP AGAINST THE WALL. Pep Combo members Linda Liming, Jim Corbett, and Linda Liming fire up a crowd at one of the many pep assemblies. his was to be only a rebuilding year for the Bands, yet these outstanding musicians surprised everyone with their best year yet. Led by drum majors Reggie Harrington and Dave Hansen, the marching band had some very excellent performances, despite some very cold weather. Although larger than ever before, it sacrificed no quality because of its immense size. Drummer John Larkins commented, “This was the best band we've ever had ... the organization and pride were much stronger this year. The Concert and Varsity Bands upheld this tradition of excellence, accomplishing more than most critics expected. The music these two groups produced was often Tee TE REIR o یک DEE ماع و om CO ATA v 4:9 ٣٤ = e وس ہہ E.
