Co-Captains loe O'Grady and Henry "Hank" Butova along with Cyril Campbell are the graduating mem- bers of the eleveny The first two rank with the best backs in the Aces' grid history. The Club gives students a practical know- ledge of the business world and the leading men in it, and sponsors many social activ- ities, including dinner meetings, outings, dances, and trips. With the addition of Prof. Sartwell, the Club had a banner year in that all money-making schemes were kept inside of the law. Chief, Iohn T., and the other business hawks attempted to get Iohn L. Lewis to organize for them, but "old eye brows" had a date with the Supreme Court. Math 61116 Prof. Randal and I. Although their won and lost columns showed only a .445 percentage with ten won out of twenty-two, the Aces opened relations with several top-ranking schools in the bas- ' ketball world and now have a home court that they can be proud of. Called "the best move to aid Springfield sports in twenty years," the opening of the new court at the Coloseum makes it possible for the Gold and Black to entertain the best in the country on the hardwoods and play to full houses of Springfield basketball fans. Coach Edward I. Hickox, rated by many as the "Dean of Basketball Coaches," bowed out at the end of the season in favor of the new policy of an all AIC coaching staff. He left behind him a fast-moving quintet that will all return next season including several reserves. Paced by Captain Ed Kosior, the Aces high scorer for two seasons with 324 points in the last, the Hickoxmen ran hot and cold through their entire schedule never winning or losing more than three games in succes- sion. Outstanding play was performed by Wayne Iones and Buck Grumoli in their de- fensive work. Elected as co-Captains for next season, this pair have played a major part in the Aces success for the past two seasons. Al Beaudoin, Bill Callahan, Ed Iamroz, Burt Gibby, Bob Tourtellotte will be among those fighting for starting berths next season along with several outstanding hoopsters from Ioe Cottone's Iunior Varsity Quintet. This year, for the first time in the history of their court relations, AIC dropped games to Vermont, Holy Cross, Providence, Wes- leyan and Brooklyn Polytech. They emerged with wins from games with St. Michaels, New Hampshire, Tufts, Pratt Institute, Clark and Worcester, Tech. New on the opponents' list were Utah State and Albany Teachers. The Iayvees broke the ice against the Ma- roons for the first time on the hardwoods when they upset the Springfield Iunior Var- sity, but that great moment of an AIC varsity basketball victory over their archrivals didn't appear slated for this season, as they drop- ped two close decisions at the Colosseum. 30 Ed Kosior Ed Iamroz Bill Callahan Burt Gibby Earl Lyons Murray Lorber VARSITY Al Beaudoin Don Day Wayne Iones Buck Grumoli Bob Tourtelloiie Bob Ieririinqs Bill Wright IUNIOR VARSITY Ierry Zwerlinq Bob Flaqa George Chakmakis Bernie Shear Dick Green A1 Okscin Phil Smith Dick Cavariauah John Wendrew Mayor Sounds Opening Note Model eongzeu lffeur Zllyldlld glllliyl Md!! 601171255 The Walter Rice Debate Council did it again in their support ot the New England lunior Model Congress. A Christmas Party was held and followed up by a very successful informal dance and luncheon for the boys in Owen St. Hall. That's the time ot the year when the young rnen's fancies turn to things that the gals have been thinking about all winter long. Finals are usually held in large rooms, where exams tor many subjects are held. Facial expressions denote thoughts ot profs that tcan't use any more Wordsl. Students can be found in every conceivable nook and cranny, in varied phases of preparation, and Chase and Sanborn statistics reveal an in- crease of SV2 cups of coffee per student, per day. lt is indeed a trying period. Overweight students reduce an average ot l73Aa ounces per hour, and underweight students have been known to walk to classes 8 inches above the sidewalks. Ad- jacent to the diamond, an A.l.C. tennis team, first such group of athletes to represent the college since 1940, was hard at work under Coach Fayette White, former Ir. Davis Cup star, while out on the Connecticut River, eager oarsmen under likeable Bill Rubner, the crew mentor, were getting in their practice licks for coming regattas. Success or failure of the baseball team de- pended upon Coach Butova, coming up with a pitcher of college caliber. Veterans were present for almost every spot in the infield and outfield, and the Aces were graced with four of the finest catchers in these parts. If "I-looks" Cournoyer, Burt Gibby, George Ab- dala, or some one else bloorned into stardom this year, the Aces chances were great. Pres- ent to add batting punch and fielding skill were such proven performers as Moe Mori- arty, Sonny Turner, Bob Tourtellotee, Buck Grumoli, George Gutt, Doc Cramer and others. W Men 'A .gaotti The busiest sports semester in many a moon loomed up ahead of A.l.C. fans and players as the last patches of snow faded and spring sunshine flooded the campus.
