PAGEANT The presentation of the stirring pag- eant entitled America proved to be the most interesting impressive and success- ful Commencement exercises in the his- tory of the Ambridge High School. The difference between the l94l-42 affair and the predecessors was the elimination of the usual orations and addresses s the members of the graduating class por- trayed the confused state of the world and the events leading up to the present crisis. After the singing of The Star Spangled Banner by the audience Kenneth Hulet in the role of Uncle Sam the Voice of America told what America stood for how hard work had made it the top-rank- ing nation of the world. He also told how its citizens coming from every part of the globe made it a better place to live in. The Chorus sang Ballad for America which provided the motif of the pageant. Representing the countries which have been the victims of the Nazis eight Sen- iors Joanne Mellott Julia Senata Veron ict Niklewicz Steve Skapic Margaret By- cura Jeanne Shippan Harry Bielski and John Athens in native costumes imper- sonated Ethiopia China Poland Czecho- slovakia Yugoslavia Netherlands France and Greece respectively. Each of the countries cried out to America to help them expressing what they were going through. But Uncle Sam turned a deaf ear explaining that America was not pre- pared and that it wanted no more A.E.F.s or no more war. Hawaii enacted by Eve- lyn Hartstein then came on the scene and after her announcernent of what hap- America rose up and after explaining that we were in the war whether we wanted to fight or not introduced a Ma- rine Soldier Sailor Red Cross Nurse American worker and Civilian Defenses portrayed by Francis Mildanner William Hronas David Rittlemann Beatrice Dale David Barr Ruth Wolfe and Ann Mosura Il ll l I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I a I I Il I II I I I I I I I f pened at Pearl Harbor, the Voice of I I I II II 1 I I I I I I I , I 1 1 I 1 r ' 1 ' -27.-
