The Young Womens Christian Association in Ama- rillo in cooperation with Amarillo High School spon- sor Y-Teen groups at Szmdieland. There were two groups in 1953-59. One was composed of juniors and seniors and the other strictly of sophomores. The groups met weekly and sponsored tw o major activities in the calendar year for the social and spiritual life of A.H.S. students. The first major activity of the group was the annual Snowflake Hall held in early December. Students from both groups worked together on the plans and deco- rations. It is the traditional fall semester social event of the season at Sandieland. The second floor girls gymnasium was used in 1953 and the old hall was turned into at beautiful winter wonderland for the couples who enjoy dancing under the snowflakes of a warmer nature. In March in conjunction with the annual World Day of Prayer services held universally, the members of all the Sandieland Y-Teens groups planned and spon- sored the prayer service for students at A.H.S. As the bells pealerl across the street for the students to come worship, Y-Teens felt that they had reached the climax of their spiritual year at Sandie-land. Monday night for decades has lxeen Hi-Y night at Sandieland. The same was so in the l958-59 school year. Whereas in the past the Hi-Y groups had been divided into two or three groups, this school year there was but one club. The meetings were held weekly at the Young Nic-ns llhristian Assoeiution at Sth and Yan Buren. A varied program of sports and recreation is held by nienihers and faculty sponsors alike. The Fandieland group attends the regional and state meetings of the Hi-Y group in the liuilding of Christian leaders for our gIOYt'l'llIlll'llltil sy stem. They present hills for the Hi-Y state legislature and are privileged to run eundidutes for offive. llistriet and regional eomtntions ure held for the curly plans for this enterprise.
