This year's Student Council has been very productive with President John Hob- son leading the group Starting out the year with a "welcome back" dance was the beginning of a year full of activities. These included national assemblies, a trash pick-up, and they or- ganized a "fun-day" fundraiser for the Special Olympics. The group also pur- chased garbage cans and painted them for the drive against litter. 4 Student Council members are: Mike McNeill, Nancy Miller, Doug Gidding, Angie Peterson, John Barrett, Leslie Bonneau, Dan Comden, Jan Kingsbury, Robert Sobon, Corey Willenburg. Computer teaches the students various things from learning the basic comput- er Ianguage, to writing a program. They write flow charts, and sometimes when they are caught up, they do play the games already programmed. The new dance class is a long time dream of Mrs. Monaghan. When she first came to ACHS, she asked if she could teach a dance class, but until now her wish had been denied. Students were enthusiastic and a few male stu- dents also enrolled inthe class. The class teaches both ballet and a combination of jazz and Modern Dance. f.-t .- gg 1 44. l 1- , 4-5 y W ' if a. l ,.,, I 'i. A K -ff . .g.li- K, tk... -1 , 24 PWS c 'ag .LL Edna.-...M aww... .. The first, Yukiko Yalmishita, adjusted well by joining volleyball having been a popular sport in Japan. She did very well and ended the season by making MLL all- league second team. Perjo Pakkonen, a seventeen year old from Finland, became a foreign exchange student to meet people other than those in her own country. Although she has studied English for about eight years, Perjo had to adjust to the different way that English is spoken here compared to the more regimen- tal way she was taught. Another experience new to her is riding a bus to school. The town, in which she lived, in Finland was much biggerg therefore, having everything much nearer, she could walk to school. 30 Q I H W . The girls' varsity track team started out the year as a top contender for the second year in a row. Their stiffest compe- tition came from Bret Harte and Calaveras. The boys' varsity team was not overly large this year, but it had some outstanding competitors in the middle distance and distance runs and in some of the field events. The boys' j.v. team was the strongest in several years. They had a talent and strength in almost every area. Their toughest competition came from the Calaveras team which ordinarily dominate the M.L.L. Of the three teams, the J.V. stood the best chance of winning a title.
