very productive with President John Hob-

Special Olympics. The group also pur-
chased garbage cans and painted them
for the drive against litter.

DANCE AND
CGMPUTEF-2
Two of the more popular new classes are the comput-
er class taught by Mr. Rouze Foote and the dance class
taught by Mrs. Kathy Monaghan. Computer teaches the
students various things from learning the basic comput-
er Ianguage, to writing a program. They write flow
charts, and sometimes when they are caught up, they
do play the games already programmed. The new
dance class is a long time dream of Mrs. Monaghan.
When she first came to ACHS, she asked if she could
teach a dance class, but until now her wish had been
denied. Students were enthusiastic and a few male stu-
dents also enrolled inthe class. The class teaches both
ballet and a combination of jazz and Modern Dance.

CHANGES
FOREIGN
EXCHANGE
STUDENTS
This year we have three foreign exchange students
which are from various parts of the world.
The first, Yukiko Yalmishita, adjusted well by joining
volleyball having been a popular sport in Japan. She did
very well and ended the season by making MLL all-
league second team.
Perjo Pakkonen, a seventeen year old from Finland,
became a foreign exchange student to meet people
other than those in her own country.
Although she has studied English for about eight
years, Perjo had to adjust to the different way that
English is spoken here compared to the more regimen-
tal way she was taught.
Another experience new to her is riding a bus to
school. The town, in which she lived, in Finland was
much biggerg therefore, having everything much nearer,
she could walk to school.

Being a foreign exchange student from Tahita,
Fred Hauata has experienced many new things. After
sampling various American foods, he found his favor-
ite to be pizza compared to his main diet of fish in
Tahiti.
School being very strict in Tahiti, Fred had to ad-
just to our more relaxed classroom environment.
When asked what he thought of California, his only
response was "Crazy"l

FFA
Nation Wide
Organization
The FFA is a national organization open to
anyone who is enrolled in a vocational Agri-
culture class. lt is an organization with over
half a million nation wide members. Our
chapter operates the snack bar at the foot-
ball games with FHA. Other fund raisers in-
clude a woodcut card party, pig raffle, and,
or fair booth.
During National FFA Week QFebruary 21-
287 we put on a petting zoo. At Amador
County Fair we have members who show
everything from rabbits to beef. The end of
the year is wrapped up with a fishing trip and
banquet. We have 38 members in our club
with many of which are active members.

Laura Heburn shoots for two points.
What is this year's Varsity team like as compared to last
year?
This year's team is much more willing to work, and they are
very easy to coach. It is a much younger team. Carol Brusi-
tori, Teri Aston and Renne Brisset are the only seniors, the
rest are juniors. So they will be more experienced for next
year. There is a definite improvement from the beginning of
the year. The league is also better.

GlFtL'S SOFTBALL
"This will be a season of firsthand experience for many players of Amador's softball team. The squad is monopo-
lized largely by younger members. Returnees include seniors, Teri Aston and Carol Brusatori, both of whom will be a
vital part of our infield, as well as newcomer Shelia Scott, who shows promise and enthusiasm for the first base spot.
"Junior veterans are Linda and Susan Weldin. Susan will be pitching for the first time and serve as a utility person in
the infield and outfield. Linda takes up the reigns as shortstop. Karen Tarter returns this year and new transfer
student, Leah Schulze, looks strong in pre-season contests in the outfield and hitting.
"Sophomores and Freshmen round out the lineup in abundance. Rosanne Lemer will be taking up much of the
pitching responsibilities as will new student, Brenda Clifton. We anticipate a good competitive season and I appreci-
ate the enthusiasm of all the women on the team, and the assistance of senior, Cheri Cunningham, in base coaching."
Quoted Coach Mary Jo Fox at the beginning of the season.

The girls' varsity track team started out the year as a top
contender for the second year in a row. Their stiffest compe-
tition came from Bret Harte and Calaveras.
The boys' varsity team was not overly large this year, but it
had some outstanding competitors in the middle distance
and distance runs and in some of the field events.
The boys' j.v. team was the strongest in several years.
They had a talent and strength in almost every area. Their
toughest competition came from the Calaveras team which
ordinarily dominate the M.L.L.
Of the three teams, the J.V. stood the best chance of
winning a title.

JUNIGRS
President disappointed
The Junior class put on the Fall Dance with the band
"Whiskey" on Friday, November fourteenth. We also put
on a Christmas Stocking sale and a Valentine balloon
bouquet sale. The class of '82 consists of a few hard
working individuals, but as a group, quite apathetic. The
most enthusiasm was displayed in the planning of the ex-
citing Prom on May second.
