A Y s..... 'JF: 'ii' Amador Travel Servicc Guests of ACHS My wife and I visited the USA and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we thought we would like to come again. I read an announcement saying it was possible to arrange an exchange teaching post with a teacher in the USA. Post haste my wife and I applied. Some 900 teachers from Great Britain ap- plied and of these only 110 finally arrived on American soil. Before entering the teaching pro- fession. I had spent a number of years in various capacities ranging from Radio Fitter in the Royal Air Force to a Purchasing Agent. With- out making the change from indus- try and entering the teaching pro- fession. I would not have had the opportunity to come to the USA to work, nor of meeting many more interesting people. Fred Cross I value the learning experiences of this year far more than five years at school in Finland. I have great friends at this school. and I'm happy I came to a small school rather than a large urban school. l'm never going to forget my time at Amador which was made pos- sible by Youth for Understanding. and I hope more students experi- ence what I have. . .gf Student Apath Fought Student Council tried to bring many innovative ideas to Amador. We worked hard, fighting red tape and student apathy. We successfully ex- tended the lunch period, reopened the snack bar, sponsored two dances and other activities which benefitted the students. Student Council and I would like to thank Mr. Schutzg none of what we did could have been accomplished without the constant cooperation and help he gave us. Being Student Body President has been a very positive, learning experience. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to get to know more of the stu- dents and I would like to wish the students of Amador-especially the class of '79 success and happiness in whatever they do. I am very grateful to Student Council for its cooperation and making this an exciting year. Dana Adrian, Student Body President 1. Band Marches in evada Under the direction of Hank King, the Thundering Herd Band, which received instruction daily, participated in many parades. Their most exciting event was in October at the Nevada Independence Day Parade in Carson City. The band also performed at both the winter and spring concerts. Several of the members took a change of pace, taking on other instruments such as: Karen Kross went from flute to bassoon, Becky Wilcher went from alto saxophone to soprano sax on the second oboe part, and Wendy Acridge went from baritone saxophone to bass saxophone. Nine bandsmen went to the UOP Music Clinic in Ianuary. Robin Smallwood came back with second chair, baritone sax, and Tammy Warner succeeded in getting second chair, first clarinet. 1.
