Kent is the only member of the 1971 graduating class left in the AlWood community. All the others have gone to find bigger and better things. Closest to home is Debbie Olin, whose occupation is raising horses. Kathy Peterson, a jockey, riding one of Debbie's horses, took the Triple C Crown Sweepstakes at Hidden Valley Downs. Diane Carlson, is also employed at the raceway as a ticket taker. Joyce Carlson who began her operatic career on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour, informed Kent that she is now a fill-in for Kitty Wells on Hee Haw. That's a laugh! Keith Robbins, who has been head of the bun department at the Lucky Boy Bakery for some time, told Kent that Karen Johnson got a promotion and is now head of the bread department. Mike Swanson now owns his own tailoring shop. From plain blue jeans, Mike makes his own creations. His biggest customer is Jen y Campbell. Doug Swanson now an astronaut. He was always kind of in a cloud. Jerry Campbell, the Nobel Prize winning chemist, has recently invented a substance to remove bruises. Jeanne should be happy to hear about that. Steve Malcolm recently visited Erik Therkelsen in Denmark. While on a hike up a mountain side, Erik incurred a fall. Steve then was forced to carry Erik to the nearest house. When the reached the house, the owner asked, "Isn't he heavy?" Steve replied, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother." Judi Bengston has left for New York City, to see the uncovering of the new Spring Fashions. Her husband, Conrad Herstrom, hopes that she will be buying more minis this year. He said he doesn't like her wearing midis because everything is out of sight. Pat Leininger has finally "picked the right strings." She is now a successful folk singer and guitar player. She deserves a pat on the back. Rick Anderson, as everyone knows, is married to the former Connie Anthony. Kent asked Rick how married life was and Rick replied, "It's a riot." Rick Jones has finally met his goal. He has hitch hiked around the world. Greg Baysinger now works on clocks in a clock factory. He enjoys his work, but his friends fear he will eventually go cuckoo himself. Ruth Metzger has successfully completed the examination for her graduate degree and is anxious to follow in her parents footsteps. Carol Eiker and Linda Cole who both are advocates of the women's lib movement, have finally succeeded. Carol is the first woman to be accepted on the men's pro baseball team and Linda has finally gotten a job at Hazel Dell. Kent reports that Steve VanTrump is now farming high in the mountains of Mexico. After many unsuccessful attempts at pro football, Dave Briggs decided to settle down and marry Rhonda Cowser. They have taken over Audreys and also started a rent-a-car service. Fred Gordon has won a trophy in the Demolition Derby. He really enjoys crashing. Linda Null and Randy Barton who both have taken to growing afroes, can now be seen in the musical production of "Hair". Clarese Rehn, a well-known artist has recently sold another painting. Her husband says she's a fine piece of art herself. 87Stan Browning now runs a very successful business ... he owns a nursery. It must be the Green thumb that attributes to his success. Dave McKee and Jane Newman have gone to Canada via his chopper, as reported by FBI agents, Judy Anderson and Connie Barton, who incidently kept a pretty close eye on Dave in high school. Julie Geiger and her husband manage the northern half of the farm ground in District 225. She and her husband own and manage the Agronomy and Animal Husbandry Service. Her green hand of high school days has paid off. Scott Falline has taken up photography as his profession. Scott's latest photograph has appeared in a circulated publication of Sears Roebuck. Strangely enough the photograph was of one of his old schoolmates, Betty Olson, who appeared in the fashion section of the publication. Kathy Holdsworth, Kent reports, has finally achieved her lifelong goal of becoming an airline stewardess. Last week Kathy flew to Hawaii, where she says she had a luau. Steve Norberg, who has been in the Navy now for 4 years has decided to make a career of it. Mary Johnson and Julie Youngren are now both teaching at a school for the deaf. When they asked Kent if he also would like a position there, he said that he just wouldn't hear of it. Darla Engstrom, Kent reports, has been debating on whether or not to go to Egypt to ride camels. Darla always was an animal lover, but she says that there are a few lumps to overcome. Jeff Johnson has taken up a very professional business. He collects any and every type of gum wrapper he can find. Although he enjoys it, he said that it can be a very sticky business at times. Doug Bowman, Kent reports, is now a professional airline pilot. Although he is somewhat afraid of heights, he says he enjoys flying. Would you believe that Nancy Noy is a professional jockey? Yes sir, Kent got that bit of news right from the horse's mouth. Ed Torrance and Dennis Meirhaeghe have accepted positions as janitors at the St. Louis Zoo where they specialize in sweeping the elephants cage. When asked how they liked the pay, they replied, "We manage to scrape together a few peanuts everyday". Neil Curry is now owner and manager of Playboy Inc. Like they say, "Blondes DO have more fun". Teresa Wallin and Curt Barton have merged businesses together and have become Wallin and Barton's Ambulance G Wrecker Service. Gary Minder, who followed in his father's footsteps as a driver's education teacher was their first customer. Jean Hammerlund, is now a professional deep sea diver. When asked why she chose that particular profession, she replied, "I think it's very interesting, although, I admit at times, it can get pretty fishy". Kent has done such a good job of reporting for the Dispatch that rumor has it he will have to work the rest of his life. 88 WRITTEN BY CLASS OF '72.Carol Eiker DAR Class Motto: "Find something you would die for--then live for it."
