Whether Our Teams Win or Lose Enthusiasm and good sportsmanship on the part of the fans are the important parts of our athletic program that are fostered by the AlWood Pep Club. Most of us think of the Pep Club only at the actual contests, but their interest in promoting a good cheering section must start much beyond the pep section we see and admire at the games. In order to have well trained cheerleaders, they send them to Illinois Normal University to cheerleading camp each summer. For home basketball games the Pep Club plans and publishes programs; for the games away from home they sponsor student buses. Yearly the club sponsors an athletic banquet honoring athletes and cheerleaders. J.v. NEAL McMEEKAN LARRY SWANSON STEVE JOHNSON BOB SIPES Basketball Play WILLIS KIRKLAND 1 LARRY SMITH AlWood, under our new coach, had an up and down season. We started strong, taking third in the Galva and Combe It tournaments. Although we lost the last four conference games, we finished with a 7-7 record. In the state district tournament we won the first two games, but lost to Alexis in the finals. The Junior Varsity had a very good season, completing a 10-4 conference and a 13-5 season record. We will lose three starters through graduation, but will have a fine group of juniors and sophomores to take up where they are needed and bring continuing success to AlWood.
