Us the Keys
Home Nursing
RUTH MASON
Our school nurse is kept very busy with 500 students — especially during the annual epidemics that strike at AlWood. But Mrs. Mason's pleasant and patient attitude is as good as any medicine when we aren't feeling up to par. She also instructs the senior girls in a very practical home nursing course.
Mathematics
DON METZGER, GENE BEHNKE
Showing us through equations, theorems, and math problems are Mr. Behnke (better known as Coach ) and Mr. Metzger. Not only does Mr. Behnke show us how to tackle math, but he also shows our football, basketball, and track squads some techniques in playing with good sportsmanship and skill.
Music
ESTELLE MILLER, DON RICGLE
Every year our band and chorus become fine organizations due to the efforts of Mr. Riggle and Mrs. Miller. They work conscientiously to prepare the band and choruses, plus ensembles, for contest. Each year the public may enjoy the results of their efforts by the minstrel show, band concerts, and Christmas program.

Girls’ P. E.
CAROL HARDIN
With a come on, ladies and a smile, Mrs. Hardin is ready for action. She has something for everyone in her curriculum—from tumbling to ball gymnastics. And Mrs. Hardin's classes are learning hours, not play hours!
Social Studies
ALBERT MILLER, M.D. HA INLINE
From beginning to the present, the history of the world has been shown us by Mr. Miller and Mr. Hainline. Besides teaching these classes, Mr. Miller and Mr. Hainline instruct Boys' P.E. and Industrial Arts, respectively.
Vocational Education
DOROTHY SWANSON, RICHARD GEIGER, DIANA RILEY
Leading us to careers in business, homemaking, and agriculture are Mrs. Swanson, Mrs. Riley, and Mr. Geiger. Besides being business instructor, Mrs. Swanson is also the diligent advisor of our Annual Staff. Mrs. Riley is home economics teacher, as well as being the advisor of F.H.A., and Mr. Geiger is instructor in agriculture, advisor of the hard-working Student Council, and also F.F.A. sponsor.

. . . To the Future
Science
LOUIS BROWNING, WALTER MINDER Mr. Browning, with his I didn't drive you in here with a bat and You don't have to pass this course, tries to make us learn something in his classes of chemistry, physics, and biology. Mr. Minder teaches the freshmen general science and the seventh and eighth grade P.E. classes. He is also coach for the junior high basketball, track, and baseball squads (junior and senior high).
Foreign Language
RUTH BLOOMBERG, FRANCES FISCHER Our foreign language department offers AlWood students Latin I and II, and French I. Latin is taught by Mrs. Bloomberg. English III and the directing of the junior and senior class plays are included in her busy schedule. Mrs. Fischer is the French professeur. Also, among her day's activities is music instruction for the primary grades.
English
JANE WEECH, IRENE McGAUGHY The importance of grammar and literature for our use in our future occupations is stressed to us by our English teachers. Mrs. Weech works with the freshmen and sophomores in the mechanics of English and different types of literature. Mrs. McGaughy instructs the seniors through term papers and English literature, such as Shakespeare's Macbeth, plus other aspects of grammar and literature. Also, through her work as librarian every student may be proud of Alwood's well-organized library.
