The Yellowjacket Varsity Volleyball team opened their 1979-80 district season with wins over Deer Park 15-8, 16-
At the next game, the 'Jackets denied the Pearlond Oilers a claim in the game by thrashing them 15-0. That
game displayed the fine defense Alvin is known for.
With spirit left from the Oiler wins, Alvin went on to take two away from the Dulles Vikings in what was
considered a key district match.
With three victory sets behind them, the girls went on to clinch the first round district championship by beating
the Angleton Wildcats 15-9, 16-14. '
ln the game following, the Yellowjackets boosted their record to 7-0, upon speaking by Galveston Ball 15-13, 15-
In the actual games of the District Championships, Alvin edged by the Pearlond Oilers in two out of three: 14-7, 7-
In their ninth straight district win the girls "whupped up" on the Texas City Stingarees: 15-3, 15-2. By the time the
'Jackets played the Dulles Vikings in second round action, they were old hands at the victory smiles. By the way,
Dulles fell to the invincible Yellowjackets 15-5, 15-9.
The 'Jackets played a close set with LaMarque, but came on top: 12-15, 15-2, 15-13.
That was the girls twenty-fifth straight win!
Dickinson met the Alvin cannonballs and were blasted in two out of three: 15-5, 13-15, 15-10.
The mighty 'Jackets dropped their only district game to Angleton in the second round of play: 9-15, 14-12, 14-12.
After that loss, the Jacket's lost a close set to the Clear Lake City Falcons: 15-9, 15-12.
At the end of the season the mighty, fightin' Yellowjackets won District with a 20-5 record. Angleton finished
