Looked like a big, black bear. 25-Tests! did one ever see so many? 26-General chorus. As Mrs. Meredith says, aren't our men voices lovely? 27--Tonight's the game with Shelby. DECEMBER. 2-Well, we beat Shelbyville and also Greensburgg still goin' strong and we mustn't forget our second team which has won all its games so far. 4-We were entertained by Mr. Cartwright, Mr. Church and Mr. McKane with musi- cal numbers consisting of classical, popular, and old time selections. 6-Our chance at Martinsville tonite. Anderson is out of the game but still we aren't discouraged. 9-Did we beat Martinsville? And How! ! l First time in four years to meet defeat by F. H. S. Griz Wagner spoke to us and praised our boys. Joe W. and Ellen Curry were going to lead a yell or two but sad to say Bob G. rang the fire bell so stopped the celebration. 11-Rev. W. P. Halbert gave a discussion on his trips through the Balkans. 13-The 13th and Friday at that and here we play the Bull Dogs tonight. 16-Well, the Bull Dogs defeated us but we came back Saturday night and beat Sey- mour. Our second team has not met a single defeat. We are still behind our teams. 17--Sorry to say our French Club can even sing in French. And oh the songs such as Love Me floated down from the assembly this morning. 18-Mr. F. Elmer Marshall gave a delightful reading, Dicken's Christmas Carol, and another humorous Christmas reading. Miss Ott explained the Christmas party, which takes place Friday and asked that we look out for the little ones. 19-Seniors called a meeting but odd, our sponsors were not with us. Can one imagine why? Well it is getting near the 25th. 20-Everyone looking at the queer creatures running around here, but it's only part of the cast for Why the Chimes Rang. Junior Red Cross party this afternoonand assembly is taking on an air of festivity. Hope we can take the hacks out of the I-Iatchetsf' I wonder?????? 21-Jan. 6. Big Christmas Vacation. JANUARY. 6-Principal Porter said -he was glad to see most of us back, we hope so. Mrs. White- sides talked on spinal meningitis and advocated cleanliness and a mild antiseptic to ward off the disease. 7--The assembly was very highly entertained by El Comancho, who pictured vividly the developing of the West. 8-Another speaker but on Burma this time. Prof. Currier from our own college was over and even talked some Burmese for us and showed us some wonderful pieces of art. We were quite amused when he described and demonstrated part of the shows they have. 9-Send out a Raven! It's a reoccurrence of the Noah flood, Look at the water, Ole Hurricane is stepping out a little, isn't she? Such were some of the exclama- tions heard in rooms on the east side of Alva Neal school Thursday morning as students would tarry a while by the windows during intermission to behold magifi- cent Hurricane Creek, once only a small rivulet, now expanded until it covers an entire field--now if it would only freeze. 10-Basket Ball boys report that they could even swim the basement of the gym due to the high waters. Waters have not been so high since 1913. 15-The Glee Club sang several songs this morning for entertainment. Assistant Prin- cipal Moore, and his gym boys gave a brilliant display of grace and ability. Every- one thinks it one of the best programs so far. -The county tournament is taking place and we get out of school early. --Wondering what the crowds were all about in the hall, we found out that the Final Exam schedule was posted. 22-Reverend Meengs made us realize what privileges we have here in the United States and that we should take advantage of this opportunity. Many of the blue and discouraged fdue to finalsj looked much brighter. 24-On account of the tragic death of one member of the school board, Mir. Amador Wyrick, all games were cancelled this week. 27-Back for 2nd semester and are welcoming our freshmen but we wonder why they don't take off their coats and stay awhile. T'hey'll be here for approximately four years at least. 17 21 I930

The faculty advocates an initiation but not this week. 13-Friday not as unlucky but very uneventful as some Fridays are. 16-Assignment of session rooms. Freshmen are getting the breaks--of the paddles. 17-First music practice. Things are beginning to get tuned up. 18-Profs. Breidenbaugh, Allen, Moore and Deputy astonish assembly with their un- known talent. As a dog, Mr. Moore was hot! 19-Class elections. 23-Election of members of Junior Red Cross. y 24-Girls' Glee Club tryouts. That's enough for one day. 25- Bud LaGrange and Carlton Shuck entertain the assembly with another curtained program. 26-21 Males qualify for Boys' Glee Club. 27-Junior Red Cross council meets amid blares of first orchestra practice. 30--Senior meeting. Big debt-slow pay. Such is life. OCTOBER. 1-Music, sunshine, and sore muscles for the first week of basketball practice. 3-Thursday again and ogly about 50 reporters asking who,' what, when, where, and why did you go yester ay. 4-Orchestra again reminds us of soulful music as they play and replay Battleship of Texas and Let's Go. Perhaps the conclusion of the freshmen initiation. 7-Flourish of In case of fire exit signs. 8-Shop early and help fill the 125 Christmas boxes for the Junior Red Cross. 10-Commercial club is organized and the yo yo yankers double in membership. 14-Election of members to the Annual Staff by the student body after passing the approval of the faculty. 15-Exams and everyone singing I've got a feeling I'm failing. 16-First meeting of Annual Staff. A big party of the Sunshine girls to initiate new members. Hot orchestra, eats'n everthing. 21-Teachers full of new ideas from institute. Our glee club was represented at the Cadle Tabernacle. 23-All the Hi-Y boys wondering why the girls won't buy tickets for their party. 29-Yell leaders were elected and the student body passed out in the gym. 30-Dr. Powell took us on a visit to Palestine and the Holy Land. NOVEMBER 1-Had a pep session at 3:45 and Principal Porter announced that Mr. Dobyns-, who would exchange our tickets, would be on the North high school gym door. 4-Well. We beat Waldron and how! 40 to 10. 6-Professor Cooke from the College entertained the assembly with some very pretty selections on the piano. Professor Glenn Seitz sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ethel Bailey at the piano. 8-Well, tonight we play Danville. Here's hoping we beat them. 11-Celebrating Armistice and victory over Danville together. Superintendent Camp- bell gave a very interesting account of over there during the time he was in for- eign service. Principal Porter also introduced our new system of deportment and many were the ohs and ahs. We beat Danville 25 to 23, and oh what a game it was, big celebration down town and on Saturday the student body was admitted free to the Artcraft Theatre as guests of the management, in order to finish the celebration up right. 13-Bob Zimmerman entertained the student body with an account of undersea pic- ture-makingggave us many illustrations of moving picture tricks. 18-Hurray! We beat Connersville 23 to 16. Everyone was rather taken by surprise. 20-Our women of the faculty showed their dramatic ability in their presentation of the Four Goats. We admit they are good and the student body had better be showing their arts. l930

Well, wonder what they think of 31-Assignment of session rooms. Play Bull-dogs tonight. FEBRUARY. 3-Bull-dogs defeated us. Senior meeting. Mr. Porter says if we don't want caps and gowns they won't try to force them on us. 4-Someone broke in school last night. 5-Rev. Carter spoke to assembly. Principal Porter announced that the school board had promised to buy 100 desks for assembly study hall. 6-No school Friday-Boys' and girls' glee clubs sang for the teachers at 9:45 Friday morning. 10-All students called into the office to correct schedules. Seniors were asked their opinion of having caps and gowns. 12-Mr. Elba Branigan gave an interesting account of Abraham Lincoln's.life. 14-Valentine day. Oh me! All hearts are being given away. 17-Boys came back from Bedford with victory 16-14. 18-Some group pictures taken today. It's just like spring out. ,. 19-Yinger singers entertained the assembly and the well' in which the Old Oaken Bucket hung caused quite a bit of merriment. More group pictures and initiation of freshmen. . 20-Seniors trying to decide on pictures. One can't decide which picture to have put in. 'Tis hard sometimes from the choice you have. 21-It's turned so warm everyone has the spring fever. We hope it doesn't affect our boys in the Connersville-Franklin game tonight. 24-Triumphant over Rushville 'and Connersville. Headed for tourney. 26--State tourney tickets on sale. Hi-Y boys gave a very clever and original program Will wonders never cease-Robert Fuzzy Vandivier gave atalk startling the entire school. First team and second team were presented with sweaters. Slip on sweaters and ones they can be proud of. MARCH. 3-Won the Sectional and have a chance at the Regional. Prof. Campbell talked before the assembly. 4-Seniors lamenting the fact that they saw the team play in the gym for the last time while they're in High School. 5-Prof. Beriault read Merchant of Venice to the assembly. 6-Plenty of exams. Tourney Saturday so that's one thing to look forward to. 7-Pep session. Sent the Fight, Fight, Fight ringing through the halls of Alva Neal. 10-Yip-yip-yipee! ! ! Did we win or no? And how! Out for the morning. On to the state Franklin! Hopes are high and if you could have seen our boys Saturday night, mv but they really played. Some celebration taking in the college, Masonic Home, Kittie Palmer, Payne, and Booker T. Washington schools. The excitement now of going to the state. 12-Assignments of sections in assembly rooms by classes. At last Seniors get their wish-the old tradition of letting Seniors pass first. 17-Well, we lost our second game by 2 points. The boys have several banquets and entertainments planned for this week. We are still proud of them. 19-Sidebottom, a preacher, gave an interesting talk on prehistoric man and also gave a demonstration of an Indian dance. Each member of the team stood up and we gave a yell for them. Fuzzy, Deadweight, 2nd team, Moore, Porter and Campbell. 20-Popularity vote-1 Junior boy and girl and 1 Senior -boy and girl. 21-Sunshine meeting-initiation being planned. ' , 28-Primary instrumental band from North School entertained the assembly with their variety of instruments. Mrs. Rose Meredith is the supervisor of this band. At last the Freshies get their initiation, the kids did look so peculiar all dressed up and no place to go. They were introduced one by one by Hoot Gibson and then all sang' the high school song. Sunshine party this afternoon. Danced, had stunts, and foo . . APRIL 1-April Fools Day. 2-Annual goes to press and no foolin' ! ! ! ' 1930
