These fellows, wearing the colors of Franklin, have gone through an entire schedule, losing but one game, that being to Shelbyville on Shelby's floor. The boys had a difficult schedule and set a record for second teams at Alva Neal. Only one defeat! Sounds like the days of the Wonder Five. Our second team was mainly composed of lower classmen and if the team isn't totally disrupted by promotion to the varsity, should equal if not surpass the wonder- ful achievements of the past year. Much of the credit goes to John R. Moore Qbetter known as Jackj who coached these boys. He did wonders with a group that showed only average ability. The boys were awarded their sweaters about the last of February and are proud to wear them. These boys served faithfully and well, and we join the student body in wishing them the best of luck. REAR ROW fleft to rightj Coach Vandivier, Yates, Anderson, Kerr, Brewer, Underwood When Fuzzy Vandivier issued the call for basketball practice in late September, the outlook for a successful season was anything but bright with four regulars missing from the line up and a stiff schedule ahead. However, Fuzzy built up a well balanced team that won seven consecutive games before dropping two, one to Columbus and one to Washington. This same Washington team was to give thanks in the coming March for a two point victory at the state tournament. After Christmas vacation Franklin dropped four games to four of the best teams in the state. Then arising from their slump and with the lineup intact again, they hit their early season stride and finished with four consecutive triumphs. Winning the sectional without much trouble, Franklin entered the regional and emerged with fiying colors, having defeated Shelbyville in the finals in a wonderful exhibition of basketball. e Franklin entered the state for the first time in four years but was eliminated in the second round by Washington, state champs, by a two point margin. This game gave Franklin second place in state basketball standing. The only gloom over an otherwise successful season is that Burke Anderson, Donald Brewer, Emerson Daugherty and William Dollens have played their last game of basketball for Franklin high. l93U Q-

IEIIEIHIIHIEFIIEIEIIIEIEIIIEIHQE THE KITE IMIEIEIIEIVI-YUIIEJIHIIEIIEIIIEJIHFE Spring Sports Although Alva Neal high hasn't been so active in spring sports for the last few years, a greater interest was in evidence when the baseball season rolled round. ' Baseball occupied the lime-light after King Basketball relinquished his reign. For the first time in eight years, Franklin high school had an organized baseball club. The last one was under the supervision of Griz Wagner of Wonder Five fame. J. R. Moore, physical education instructor, took charge of baseball and made a very creditable showing udth the boys. Following is the schedule played: April 18 .......................................... Masonic Home ....,.... ......... H ere April 25 ....,....................................... Columbus ........ ......... H ere May 2 .......... ,......... G reenwood ...,.. ....... T here May 6 .......... ......... ll Iasonic Home ........ ....... T here May 9 .,...... ........ C olumbus ........ ....,.. T here May 16 ......... .,.,.... G reenwood ..... ......... H ere May 23 ......... ......,. S helbyville ...... ....... T here May 28 ......,..................................... Shelbyville .............. All home games started at 3:30 and were played on the diamond in Pioneer Park. On account of the lack of time, games were limited to seven innings. Since the greater part of the team were underclassmen, prospects look bright for next year. , Some of the other sports were archery, horseshoes, tennis, and volley ball. Although the school was well represented in these, they didn't command the interest that baseball did. ' All in all, a great improvement has been evident in this spring's activities, and Mr. Moore deserves much credit for the time and labor he spent in furthering these impor- tant phases of athletics. il l930I11EI'El
