REAR ROW fleft to rightj Coach Vandivier, Yates, Anderson, Kerr, Brewer, Underwood When Fuzzy Vandivier issued the call for basketball practice in late September, the outlook for a successful season was anything but bright with four regulars missing from the line up and a stiff schedule ahead. However, Fuzzy built up a well balanced team that won seven consecutive games before dropping two, one to Columbus and one to Washington. This same Washington team was to give thanks in the coming March for a two point victory at the state tournament. After Christmas vacation Franklin dropped four games to four of the best teams in the state. Then arising from their slump and with the lineup intact again, they hit their early season stride and finished with four consecutive triumphs. Winning the sectional without much trouble, Franklin entered the regional and emerged with fiying colors, having defeated Shelbyville in the finals in a wonderful exhibition of basketball. e Franklin entered the state for the first time in four years but was eliminated in the second round by Washington, state champs, by a two point margin. This game gave Franklin second place in state basketball standing. The only gloom over an otherwise successful season is that Burke Anderson, Donald Brewer, Emerson Daugherty and William Dollens have played their last game of basketball for Franklin high. l93U Q-

These three were selected by the student body as those best suited for the purpose. The students voiced their approval of the choice in various manners and the leaders cheerfully undertook the task set before them. The school furnished them with appropriate paraphernalia and our noise makers sugreme responded nobly on all occasions to the demands of the students for snappy ye s. As in past years, the student body had one or two favorite yells that would be appropriate on any occasion and are snappy, with plenty of vigor and vim. Here are two of the favorites: I. These fellows, wearing the colors of Franklin, have gone through an entire schedule, losing but one game, that being to Shelbyville on Shelby's floor. The boys had a difficult schedule and set a record for second teams at Alva Neal. Only one defeat! Sounds like the days of the Wonder Five. Our second team was mainly composed of lower classmen and if the team isn't totally disrupted by promotion to the varsity, should equal if not surpass the wonder- ful achievements of the past year. Much of the credit goes to John R. Moore Qbetter known as Jackj who coached these boys. He did wonders with a group that showed only average ability. The boys were awarded their sweaters about the last of February and are proud to wear them. These boys served faithfully and well, and we join the student body in wishing them the best of luck.
