IIEJ!rF!'llEIlIElllEIFElIVEJIEIIEIIEIIEIIIE THE KITE IEllIEllE1lvilIlElIIElIE1lIEJlIEl!rEllIElff!l Coaches ROBERT P. VANDIVIER Robert Fuzzy V a n d i v i e r began his coaching at Franklin high in the fall of 1926. He came to us after seven years of basketball on the Wonder Five where he was acclaimed king of the hardwood. He has had a successful year in 1929-30 and for the iirst time in four years, sent a team to the big show at Indianapolis. Fuzzy is a very competent mentor, well liked and respected by everyone. He piloted the team through its difficulties and has made good in every sense of the word. We, the Kite staif, faculty, and student body congratulate him and our only wish is for him to continue the fine record he has Coach R. P. Vandivier JOHN R. MOORE Coach Moore took up his duties at Frank- lin after several years of successful coach- ing at Summitville. He immediately took the boys available and started whipping them into shape. He piloted his team over a difficult sched- ule and finished the season with only one defeat, that to Shelby, ancient rivals. Mr. Moore has the good will of everyone and we all join in wishing him success in the future. Luck to you, Jack. nI930. established in the past. Coach J. R. Moore

EllEliHIHlIEllH'EfJIlElIElIfEllE!Ell THE KITE VQllVi'JllHllE'-I!lE'llElIElIEllUlHlI5-l1lVEll Foreword When the hardwood began its hollow thumping, Franklin took notice at about the same time as seven hundred other teams. Prospects were none too bright, but Vandivier had hopes of developing a championship team. ' Finally, after long weeks of practice, the season was opened with a victory. All was smooth sailing until Christmas. Then, on account of a week's lay-off, the team went into a decided slump. They finally emerged about the close of the season and finished the schedule in fine style. Though not winning a state championship, the boys deserve credit for a heady, spirited brand of basketball. Following is a detailed account of games and tournaments: Summary of Season V 1929-1930 SCHEDULE Franklin 45-Waldron 10 The Blue and White :formally opened its season with a decisive victory over Waldron. The ifValdron team was game but couldn't penetrate the Franklin defense. Franklin 25-Danville 23 The Danville aggregation was a better ball club than was expected and produced a real thriller. A field goal in the final seconds won for Franklin. Franklin 23-Connersville 16 The Vandiviermen journeyed to Connersville and brought home a victory from the Spartans for the first time in several years on the Spartan's floor. Franklin 43-Monrovia 26 The Franklin cagers swamped Monrovia in just another ball game. Franklin used the old delayed offense and it proved disastrous to Monrovia. Franklin 28-Shelbyville 14 The Franklin net squad took the Mackmen into camp in a battle royal. The Shelby boys were fighting but couldn't break the Blue and White jinx. Franklin 38-Greensburg 25 Too much Thanksgiving almost proved to be the downfall of Franklin. The type of ball played looked more like pre-season than nearly mid-season. Franklin 32-Martinsville 11 Possession of the ball and a driving, smashing offense put the Artesian City boys on the roof and won a ball game for Alva Neal High. A great victory for the Blue and White. Franklin 23-Columbus 34 This was the first defeat of the season and the Bulldogs administered it at Colum- bus. The Columbus five had exceptional power and tipped in basket after basket on follow-up drives. ' - Franklin 28-Seymour 17 The Vandiviermen broke into the winning column again at the expense of Babe Wheeler's proteges. The game was sluggish due to both teams having played the pre- vious night. Franklin 15-Washington 34 Burl Friddle's down-state boys defeated Franklin in a hard fought contest on Frank1in's floor, 34-15. Franklin 12-Martinsville 29 y Coach Curtis's boys avenged an early season defeat by decisively trouncing the Blue and White at Martinsville. Franklin 16-Shelbyville 24 ' Shelby finally broke the jinx and with a vengence. Throughout the game it was all Shelby as they were headed but once and that in the last frame. 5 l930
