This musical organization, probably one of the oldest organizations of the schoolg has had great success with all programs it has undertaken this year. Thirty girls compose the glee club, twelve of whom sing soprano, seven, second soprano and eleven who sing alto. Of the events in which they participated, the following are the most outstanding: their appearance before the student body when they gave a complete musical program, the Christmas party which occasioned the singing of carols made very impressive by the combined voices of the boys' and girls' glee clubs and their participation in the May Day Sing which is an annual event. Mrs. Rose Meredith has had complete control of the glee club for a number of years. Although few Mary Gardens have resulted, many prominent local singers have profited from her instruction. 5l930 U

THE KITE ElIEIlEllIE!fIElWlIEllElIlEl!lT11liEilf1ll Sunshine Society i The Sunshine Society of Alva Neal high school has always been one of the out- standing organizations of the school. Probably the reason for this is that every girl attending school is eligible to be a member 3 therefore the interest is great. For the first time, instead of one sponsor, the club has been directed by three: Miss Susannah Ott, Miss Reeda Holstein and Miss Eleanor Everroad. The initiation party of the first semester enrolled approximately thirty new mem- bers of the club. The initiation party, the second semester, welcomed twenty-five new members. The state song, Sunshine Pal written by alumnze of Alva Neal is still very much in demand and orders for it are received continually. The present Sunshine Society was organized in 1915 and has taken its place among the leading societies of the state. The onicers are: Mary Fergason ..............,...... ............... IEIIEIIEIIIEUIEIIIEJHIEIIEUVEHQEIHIEI THE KITE Iillwllilifilglmlmlwlfillwllillfil Boys' Glee Club FRONT ROW--fleft to right!--Bruce Jolly, Robert Hendricks, George Rogers, Lowell Deer, Mrs. Rose Meredith CDirectorJ, Raymond Jones, Joseph Wheeler, Russell Owens, Charles Dcppe. BACK Row--ileft to rightj-Joseph Handley, Ralph Rueif, Phillip Johnson, Burke Anderson, Robert Baker, Donald Brewer, John McClain, Norman Lloyd, David Barrow, Ralph Earlywine. The boys' glee club is a comparatively new musical organization of the school, hav- ing just completed its second year. Eighteen voices compose the club. Mrs. Rose Meredith directs the glee club and the practice is held in conjunction with the girls' glee club on the average of once each week. The boys' glee club has appeared several times in combination with the girls' glee club. They appeared before the student body during a Wednesday morning program and at the Christmas party. Its final appearance was at the May Day Sing. The interest which has been shown by the boys is remarkable and the cooperation of both glee clubs has made possible the presentation of many very interesting pro- grams. In the various organizations of the school, the glee club is represented by smaller groups, which have appeared outside the school in various programs. Semi-classical numbers are the type of compositions generally used by the organi- zation. The membership in the glee club is limited to the three upperclasses and the stand- ing of this year's members are as follows: ten seniorsg Charles Deppe, Donald Brewer, Lowell Deer, Joseph Handley, Raymond Jones, John A. McClain, Ralph Earlywine, Bruce Jolly, Charles Gibson and Burke Andersong three juniors, Joseph Wheeler, Nor- man Lloyd and William LaGrangeg and four sophomores, David Barrow, George Rogers, Robert Baker and Russell Owens. Phillip Johnson is pianist for the group. l93D. I
