THE KITE ElIEIlEllIE!fIElWlIEllElIlEl!lT11liEilf1ll Sunshine Society i The Sunshine Society of Alva Neal high school has always been one of the out- standing organizations of the school. Probably the reason for this is that every girl attending school is eligible to be a member 3 therefore the interest is great. For the first time, instead of one sponsor, the club has been directed by three: Miss Susannah Ott, Miss Reeda Holstein and Miss Eleanor Everroad. The initiation party of the first semester enrolled approximately thirty new mem- bers of the club. The initiation party, the second semester, welcomed twenty-five new members. The state song, Sunshine Pal written by alumnze of Alva Neal is still very much in demand and orders for it are received continually. The present Sunshine Society was organized in 1915 and has taken its place among the leading societies of the state. The onicers are: Mary Fergason ..............,...... ............... Upholding the creed of the Hi-Y club which is as follows--to create, maintain and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character- this organization has been a great help to the community and the school. This year has, indeed, been very successful due to the capable leadership of Prof. Vachel Breidenbaugh, who is the faculty sponsor of the club. Living up to the Christian ideals upon which the' organization is based, the mem- bers have attended the Methodist church in a body. Among the other outstanding activi- ties which have been enjoyed are the Father .and Son banquet, which was held in the high school auditorium and served by the pledges, the supervision of ushering at the home basketball games, the annual Holloween party, an annual all-school affair which was put over in a very creditable manner, representation at all conferences that con- cerned the work of the organization, and probably the outstanding feature of this year's work was the adoption of a new constitution which sets forth the ideals and the regulations of the club. As the membership is limited to upperclassmen, it is a goal for which every under- classman strives. X This organization is built on a religious foundation which embraces all Christian denominations, and the effect is seen by clean speech, clean sports and clean living by all members who signify their intentions of living up to the creed of the club. This musical organization, probably one of the oldest organizations of the schoolg has had great success with all programs it has undertaken this year. Thirty girls compose the glee club, twelve of whom sing soprano, seven, second soprano and eleven who sing alto. Of the events in which they participated, the following are the most outstanding: their appearance before the student body when they gave a complete musical program, the Christmas party which occasioned the singing of carols made very impressive by the combined voices of the boys' and girls' glee clubs and their participation in the May Day Sing which is an annual event. Mrs. Rose Meredith has had complete control of the glee club for a number of years. Although few Mary Gardens have resulted, many prominent local singers have profited from her instruction. 5l930 U
