lEllVEllIElElIEllIEllEIrF!llEllEllElllQl THE KITE Elfrillffillwililllillwlwlfilwllilllill Kite of 1930 Editor-in-Chief Business Manager Marian Keith Maurice Service The Kite Staff, composed of upperclassmen, was elected by the student body from groups of candidates chosen by the faculty with the exception of the editor-in-chief and the business manager, who were appointed by the faculty. Prof. A. Dale Allen, faculty advisor, has been of the greatest assistance at all times to the staff members. As the Kite is published bi-ennially, the upperclassmen wish to leave something worthwhile to Alva Neal high school, and with this aim in mind, they put forth their very best efforts in this publication to accomplish their goal. The staff has endeavored at all meetings when discussing the nature df the annual to make it both interesting and worthwhile and believe they have done so. All coopera- tion received from students and members of the faculty is appreciated and we hope that as time goes on, this book will mean more and more to you. An annual has been published bi-ennially in Franklin high school since 1907. This first edition was the Blue and Whiteg it was followed by The Caducus and The Scenario. In 1926 it was decided that a more fitting name should be chosen for the Franklin high school publication and a general school-contest was conducted, which resulted in the choice of the present name, suggested by Elba Branigin Jr. In recalling the life of Benjamin Franklin, you will remember that a kite was used in making one of his outstanding discoveries. So we, the staff of the 1929-1930 Kite, present this record to you as our contribution and addition to the many books that have preceded it. I930.

The AG club is a new organization of Alva Neal high school and has taken a great many steps in its initial year. This organization is striving for various' acquirements which will enable it to affiliate with The Future Farmers of Indiana which is a state branch of the national organization, The Future Farmers of America. A charter will probably be granted the Franklin club before the completion of the school year. The sponsor of the Agriculture Club is Prof. J. L. VanCleave, who has many voca- tional interests along the line of club work. Meetings are held monthly and perhaps the most interesting meeting of the year was a Father and Son banquet which was held in the Franklin Baptist church. Dr. Z. M. Smith, state director of vocational education, was the principal speaker. Meet- ings are planned to be held regularly during the summer. Four degrees can be achieved in this club, first, green hand farmerg second, :Future farmer. These first two degrees are conferred locally. The third degree is Indiana farmer, which is a state degree, and the last, the American farmer, is a national award bestowed upon candidates at the national convention. This organization with a membership of twenty-one boys will probably come to be an infiuencing factor in vocational agricultural education.
