Forty-nine boys are enrolled in vocational agriculture this
year. These boys develop skills in welding, carpentry, metals,
mechanics, and electricity. In the laboratory the boys study the
testing of soils, seed selection, and the quality of farm products.
All boys are also engaged in projects on their home farms
such as improving the home, soil, crops, and livestock.
The local F. F.A. organization is fully organized and has a
full program of interesting work and a calendar of events.

The Alva Key Club, organized in 1947, is an organization for high school boys.
Since then, the boys in this organization have worked hard performing many worth

Two of the many projects sponsored by the Key Club are sending baskets of
food to needy families on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and repairing broken toys
for needy children. Last year they purchased cyclorama curtains for the audi-

SPEHIH ACIIVITIES
Alva High School was represented at three Speech Tournaments: Northwestern
State College, Panhandle A. 8: M. , and at the Northwest Intact Conference Meet
held at Helena. Contest activities included interpretation of humorous and dramatic
literature, interpretation of poetry, public address, oration, extemporaneous speak-
ing, radio speaking, one-act play, radio play, and debate. Approximately Z5 students
did contest work, while a total of 63 students enrolled in speech. Those students
qualifying for State attended the State Meet at Norman in May. The many honors these
students brought to themselves and to their school is indicative of the fine quality of
their work.
Speech students appeared in assembly, in church and civic programs, and be-
fore other groups in our city. Speech letters were awarded to those students who
met the requirements.
Speech activities in Alva High School are under the direction of Edna Donley.
