ORVILLE KORN
Principal of Alva High School
M.A., A. 8: M. at Stillwater
"One of the purposes of a yearbook in
high school is to portray in pictures and
words, classmates, teachers, organizations
and activities of your school. This issue
cleverly accomplishes that purpose.
"In the future, as you review the pages
of the l95Z Goldbug, you will recall many
happy moments spent in Alva High.
'The Annual Staff and their Sponsors
are to be commended on the fine presen-
tation of school life and activities of Alva
High School."
Orville Korn
EARL L. GEIS
Superintendent of Schools
M.A., University of Oklahoma
Editor:
The student body and faculty members
of Alva High are indebted to the Annual
Staff and faculty advisors for this very
fine publication THE GOLDBUG ANNUAL.
In Future years it will become more valu-
able to each one of usg serving as a key
which will help us to remember the en-
dearing life long friendships that were
made during our high school days.

The Student Council of Alva High School is a representative democracy at work. Repre-
sentatives are elected by the high school classes and organizations for the Student Council.
These nineteen representatives in turn elect the officers for the Student Council. Throughout
the year the Student Council strives to serve the needs of the individual students and the best
interests of the school. Each representative feels it an honor to be elected a member in the
Student Council, and each strives to render a real service in this capacity.
The Student Council sponsored Parent Visitation Day on November 15, as a part of
American Education Week. Parents and students responded to make it a success. The fresh-
man class had the highest per cent of visitation, with the sophomore class second.
Devotions for assembly throughout the year were effectively given under the guidance of
Student Council members.
The State Student Council meeting was
held in Stillwater, December 7 and 8.
ership of Betty Middaugh, Presidentg Kenneth
Dirnrnick, Vice-Presidentg and Betty Arthur,
Secretary-Treasurer.
Sponsors are Edna Donley, Robert Man-

"To build a fellowship of women and girls to the task of realizing in our common life
those ideals of personal and social living to which we are committed by our faith as
Christians," is the ideal and purpose of a Y-Teen.
Each year the group sponsors several projects for the local and international programs.
The girls joined with other Y-Teens in The Chocolates for Christmas which includes fifteen
or more European and Asiatic countries. Two boxes including two hundred-fifty bars of
chocolates were sent to organizations in the German American Zone.
The activities include the "all school mixer" the first week of school, the informal
dance for the boy friends and the party for the senior girls. This year the group attended
the first "All State Rally" at Camp lone and presented the devotions. To help improve
the organization two girls are sent to Camp Parthenia each summer for training in Y-Teen
work.

The organization of the Future Homemakers of America has a membership of
seventy-seven girls. The motto of F. H. A., "Toward New Horizons," expresses
the purpose of the organization learning to live better today in order that our lives
and those of our families may be better tomorrow. Its official colors are red and
white with the red rose as the flower.
F. H. A. carries out several projects each year. This year the girls have taken
part in two national projects. Two boxes were sent to the World Christmas Festival
and the chapter sponsored a campaign to collect funds to aid in building the "Free-
dom" fountain in front of the U. N. building.
Our local project this year was to buy paint for the Homemaking Department.
At the weiner roast in September all of the girls interested in joining F. H. A.
were entertained. In November the initiation of new members was held during
F. H. A. Week. In January a boy-girl party was featured. The Family Fun Night
was one of the highlights in the spring. The senior members were entertained at
a luncheon in May and a tea was given for the eighth graders.
The officers attended the Sub-District meeting at Shattuck and thirty-five
members attended the State Rally at Oklahoma City in March.
Donna Jo Bradley was elected Reporter and Historian of Sub-District l Northern
District.

Fifty-four boys are enrolled in vocational agriculture this year. These boys
are making full use of the new vocational agriculture building by developing skills
in farm shop which include welding, carpentry, metals, mechanics, and electricity.
In the laboratory the boys study the testing of soils, milk for butterfat, seed for
germination, seed selection, and the quality of farm products.
Farm training would not be complete without projects on the home farms of
the boys. All boys are engaged in the business of productive farming in enterprises
of beef, swine, sheep, poultry, wheat, grain sorghums, oats, and legumes. They
also carry out projects OI unproving the home, soil, crop and livestock enterprises
on the farm.
The local F. F. A. organization is fully organized and has a full program of work
and a calendar of events. They won first on their exhibit at the County Fair, tenth
on collective exhibit at the State Fair, first in junior judging in livestock at the
County Fair, and prepared a float for the homecoming parade. Fifteen members
cooperated in buying certified seed wheat. The F. F. A. Chapter planted a small
grains testing demonstration plot and have seven acres of wheat of their own. F. F.
A. Chapter members have landscaped the Vocational Agriculture Building. Mr.
Bloyd presented them with another F. F. A. Studebaker truck.
Alvin Charles Geis, Harvard Litton, and Bill McDowell were made Junior Master
