tered To the layman watchmg the first days of practlce there was
nothmg to suggest a champronshnp team One of the generally
accepted necessrtxes welght was noticeably lackmg both from the
lrne and the backfxeld It remarned for Coach Srmon and Assrstant
Coach Westfall to srze up the srtuatron and make the most of lf
What the team lacked rn brawn was re laced by gray matter there
fore they used the system whrch relre upon brarn power and not
werght the T formanon of Stanford fame It took but a few weeks
for the squad to master the details of thls stepped up razzle dazzle
as Okeene found out ln the thrrd game of the season the first ln
whrch Alva used the T lt was rumored that the Goldbugs unusual
success with this formatron even threatened to reduce thelr box
office popularxty for several local fans were heard to remark that
these was no use golng to the games when they were unable to see
the ball or follow the plays The senror contrxbutxon to thxs eleven
were Carl Schmxtt fullback Dale Allen guard Chester Maxwell

team but because he was chosen by the Daily Oklahoman to be m
the first eleven of the All State team The under classmen who
composed the rest of the team were Norman Vetter quarterback

game schedule they were vrctorrous frfteen trmes whnch made therr
percentage srxty erght In tournament play the Goldbugs were
runner up three dlfferent trmes rn the Northwestern Invntatlonal
Tournament the Woods County Tournament and the Dxstrxct Tour
nament An unusual feature of this team was that xnstead of five or
sux players who composed the f1rst strmg there were ten whose ag
gregate qualrficatlons were practrcally equal Fortunately only two
of these graduated from the squad Brll Short center and Carl
