Foreword Our school days are now coming to an end. We have really enjoyed them and will truly remember them always as our happiest days. We have put together what we hope will keep you reminded always of the class of 1953—From us to you Good Luck Always. The Editors and Staff DEDICATION The Annual Staff is proud to dedicate our Bulldog of ’53 to the two men at Altus High that make our school more attractive, and who are friends to all the students. Our hats’ off to Charlie Derr and Clarence Holleman. Those who are mainly responsible for directing, improving, and managing school affairs are seldom recognized with our school activities. They are, left to right: Clyde C. Russell, John T. Puckett, Joe C. Stroud, W. O. Goodman, and Irvin Jeter. Thanks to them for doing a swell job. Mr. Clifford Peterson Mrs. Valter Cross A grand disposition, an un- derstanding heart, and ad- mirable personality are all combined in a man who, while being lively and gay, has at the same time used the best of judgment in serious matters to boost the Altus School System to a first class rating. She’s always there--she never fails. Besides serv- ing the School Board as a clerk. Mrs. Cross is a ex- tremely efficient secretary forthe Altus Public School. It gets in my soul, and it drives out the blues, and finally thrills through and through. It is just a good memory that chants the refrain I’m glad I touched shoulders with you.” Did you know you were brave; did you know you were strong? Did you know there was one leaning hard? Did you know that I waited and listened and waited, And was cheered by your simplest word? Did you know I looked for that smile on your face, For the sound of your voice ringing true? Did you know I grew stronger and better because I had merely touched shoulders with you? I am glad that I live, that I battle and strive For the place that I know I must fill. I can take sorrows; I’ll meet with a grin, What fortune may send, good or ill. I may not have wealth, I may not be great, But I know I will always be true, For I have in life that courage you gave When once I rubbed shoulders with you. CLASS PARENTS Dr. Clyde G.
