'HH Ha aap53Zg.fkLllq Early one bright, sunny morning in September, 1946, the doors of Altoona High School swung open and welcomed 13 quaking Freshman into 1t's fathery arms. One week later the doors opened again, and the fatherly arms threw us back out! Seriously, though we were the freshest freshmen ever seen at A.H.S. We were so fresh the teachers put us in cold storage to age us! - We early made ourselves prominent in school activities and Mr. Pederson's office. Charles was perhaps the most prominent in that rom . We contributed two cheerleaders, four basketball players, and numreous spitwads to our Alma Mater. Class roll for the year was: Josephine Asmussen, Gaylord Grondin, Ione Henning, Alice Horswill, Joan Johnson, Delores Kersten, Charles Marquardt, James O'Keefe and Delores Gunderson, Eugene Oldfield, Donald Parker, Bob Rask, and Betty Shafer. Our class officers for our first year were: James O'Keefe ---------------- President Ione Henning ----------------- Vice President Charles Marquardt ------------ Sec. and Treasurer In 47, we became Sophmores and made life very miserable for the new freshmen. This year we lost James O'Keefe and Delores Gunderson but gained Orlin Simonson, keeping ourlclass roll at 12. We were very active in Glee Club, Dramatics,Class plays, basketball, and eraser throwing. We wre inactive in Algebra and anything that resem- bled work. Our class officers were: Bob Rask --------------------- President Joan Johnson ----------------- Vice President Eugene Oldfield -------------- Sec. and Treasurer The next year we became Junlorsnnaturallyn and were quite lofty and sophisicated. Alice Horswlll and Gaylord Grondin left us so now our number had decreased to ll. We made up for quantity with quality however, and had perhaps our most peaceful year. Class officers for our Junior year were: Bob Rask -------------------- President Ione Henning ---------------- Vice President Eugene Oldfield ------------- Sec. and Treasurer When September of 49 rolled around, we creaked our aging bones, threw the even more aging doors of A.H.S. for the final year. We lost two members, Josephine Asmussen and Orlin Slminson, but we gained one Beverly Abrahamson, so that our final number was 9. Ione, Gharles Joan, and Delores, started school in the first grade at Altoona. We face the future wfml open hearts, open minds, open arms, and empty pocketbooks. From these meager beginnings, who know to what heights we may rise. Donald Parker-Wdparks' Not seeing much action this year, Don always gave a good account of himself when he was in there. He started the second half of the Owen game and did a very good Job while the regulars rested for the championship game with Osseo. EVBPGVV L0VT1e'Eaey Evn A regular forward with one year left. He is noted for his slow smooth ball handling which accounts for his having the scoring honors for the year. Roger Thompson-'Curly' Roger played very little this year but he showed rebound ability and Frederick Thurston-'Fuzzy' standing as a feeder and a scoring list. Fuzzy was of drive that will make him valuable next year The best team player on the squad, was out- ball hawk. However, he was well up in the most value for his rebounding and feeding. He was unanimous choice for the All District Team. He has one year of competition remaining. Ronnie Babbitt-nFloor Mop' A sophomore foward who was a starter in most of the games. He played his best ball during the first part of the season. he floor is always clean after Ronnie plays in a game. William Glassbrenner-'Wilamarn As the eleventh man on the team, Blll showed the ability to develop into a capable guard. Dick Radlsewitz-'Rats' A sophomore guard showed a great deal of drive and a good eye for the basket. He played best under pressure and im- pressed everyone with hls great defensive ability. He was having a great season, until it was interrupted by an injury to his knee. Dick Thurston-'Sleepyu Sleepy offset his lack of speed by being the best shot on the team. His passing was also a valuable asset as shown in the Elk Mound game. He has two years of competition remaining. Glen Shafer-ulpike' Only a BOPUOUOUG, his rebounding ability will be greatly needed next year. He always did a good Job replacing Chuck at the center position. Charles Rasmussen-'Chuck' A sophomore center who should develop in to a great player within the next two years. He was a starter this year and possesses a good hook shot which should be developed. Dennis Weeks-'Denny' Another second year man playing guard position He has both rebound and shooting ab1l1ty,He may turn out as one of Altoona's better guards. ?. 1:5 P9 m, 5 A-an Gi' 5 1 ' ww.f- 1' 'MQEEMS5 ggmww. mYsEQW Wx?f3QHw .K E ,, 41-,Q mwwagnw - -,wmv W, W A ""' Nay: . The G.A.A. was under the leadership of Mrs. LeDue this year and proved to be more active than any other year. The initiation was conducted by the girls who had joined before and it proved to be a very cool one for the girls being initiated, because they had to wear there Gym suits, with high heeled shoes and there nylons. The G.A.A. girls sponsored a dance and also a weiner roast. The weiner roast was to be for just the girls, but as usual there ended up to be more boys than girls but they all seemed to enjoy themselves. The girls are now trying to decide wheter to have a sleigh ride or walt until spring and have a hay ride, lbetter walt till spring girls and have the hay ride it will be warmer.l This page sponsored by: HANSON OFFICE MACHINES 514 GIBSON STREET GALLOWAY HOTEL 617 GIBSON STREET, EAU CLAIRE A 1 1 I1 1 111 1 I , 1 e , 1 2 ' ll" 1 I I 1 I 11 1 11 . i ' ' 1 1 11 ' , 1 1 I I- I 1 1 1 F 1 'IN ' 1 'i .-.11,1- 1 1- , I... 1, 1 .
