Bausch and Lomb award D.A.R. award
Yearly this award is given to a student of the senior
class by the ,Daughters of the American Revolution. This
award is given to the student who excels in the qualities
of leadership, patriotism, and service. The winner this
year was Peggy Veit.
This year the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb
Award will be Peggy Veit. Peggy was chosen by the
Science Department as the student with the best record
and the most promise in the area of science.
Peggy is now eligible to compete for one of several
scholarships awarded at the University of Rochester.
Peggy's father, Dr. Veit, also received the Bausch
and Lomb Award when he was a senior.

After two years work on Student Council, Tony Lane
was elected as President of the Student Senate. Tony
represents Alton High at all Student Council workshops and
conventions. Last summer he represented Alton High in the
National Workshop in Delaware.
Tony has participated in Concert Choir and Swing
Andrew Iackson was presented with the cane
and chain, symbols of the senior class, at last year's
graduation. Elected as Class President, Andrew also
became Student Activities President.
Andrew was crowned the 1976 Homecoming
Planning the Iunior Prom was Andrew's first
responsibility as class president. He also selected
the class motto, and will plan the Senior Prom.

The National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists this year are Ieff Iungk, David Laird, Erik Ryberg, and
Karen Surhe. They were chosen on the basis of their scores on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying
These four students, as semi-finalists, received four of the highest scores in the state. The semi-finalists
represent less than one percent of the graduating seniors in the United States. They demonstrate high in-
tellectual capacity and readiness to develop their abilities.
Congratulations Ieff, David, Erik, and Karen!
