The 1975 Alton High Tennis team started out the season with a new coach. Coach Schleper proved to be
an excellent instructor and helped the "Netbirds" end their season with thirteen wins and five losses as an
over-all record. They also tied for third place with Belleville East for the Southwestern Conference Cham-
pionship, with a record of ten wins and four losses.
The "Netbirds" took second place at the Illinois High Schools District Tennis Tournament held in
Granite City, where Roger Schleper won second place which qualified him for the state tennis finals held
in Arlington Heights.
Roger Schleper, a senior, also played first singles for the tennis team and captured an outstanding
record of sixteen wins and six losses.
Senior, john Brainerd won fourth place in fourth singles at Springfield Invitational Tournament and
ended his season with' fifteen wins and five losses.
First doubles were played by Roger Schleper and junior Andy BeDell with a 12-4 record, while seniors
Dan Maher and David Bowman played second doubles for the Alton High Tennis team having a record of
The third doubles consisted of a sophomore, john Horn, and a junior, Brad Bockhorst, which ended
their season with a successful record of 14 wins and 2 losses.
