Alton manages to produce one of the finest track
squads in the state every year. The 1974-75 season was
no exception. The Redbirds paced through the indoor
season with amazing speed, as they finished in a tie for
first place with East St. Louis in the Eastern Illinois In-
vitational and placed 4th in the St. Louis Armory Dick
Hudlin Invitational. The track team was invited to the
Bloom Invitational in Chicago for the first time, who
host only the finest Competitions in the state. The Red-
birds finished 4th in a field of ten teams. The outdoor
season looked promising. A very fine Alton team con-
sistently finished second to a high powered East St.
Louis team who later went on to win state. The Alton
Redbirds finished sth in the state as Larry Perry
finished first in the Long lump and second in the triple
jump. Mike Sawyer placed 4th in the mile. The team as
a whole was outstanding, being coached by some of the
Coaches: lim Wigger, Paul Economides, Bill
Diddlebock, George Larsh. In the tradition of Alton
Track the TATLER Staff hopes the team will have
another successful season.
