Who knows what the fads will be tomorrow? When we were in school we can remember everyone dying his hair with cake coloring . . . and if you don't think it was shocking to walk into a class and see a room full of bright red, green, orange and purple-headedstudents, ask some of the teachers who taught our group. They survived it though - as teachers have survived all the fads of teenagers through the ages.

We dig those real cool ligures in algebra, or get all squared away in English class, maybe even have our carefully planned history report go over like a lead balloon. Quite possibly these expressions don't fall in the groove with the type of oral commentary expected from a supposedly educated teenager. The discerning language perfectionist might gasp disdain- fully at the use of such phrases. However, as long as we, the students, realize the incorrectness of slan- guage, and keep it in its proper place, which cer- tainly is not in an essay, a speech, or formal conver- sation, it remains harmless as a threat to the English language.
