ROBERT B. LYNN, M.D. President CHARLES J. HEMPHILL, D.D.S. Secretary It is the purpose of the Board of Education to develop the total school program in terms of what is best for the child in the American way of life. The curriculum, the techniques of teaching, the materials used and the atmosohere of schools and classrooms are being set up, administered, and adapted, in so far as possible, to meet the needs and provide for the potentialities of the pupils. The Board of Education stresses this type of learning which gives special attention to the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of children as well as to their mental growth. Such a philosophy gives each teacher a part in (1) determining the needs of children; (2) building objectives for the major subject matter areas that link with one another; (3) utilizing the varied learning experiences; and (4) evaluating the outcomes. The realization of such a program demands the highest degree of efficiency on the part of all those connected with the Alton Public Schools and encourages teachers and pupils to work to the best of their ability. We are thankful for the work the Board has done this year, and we are grateful for the opportunities and advancements their work has given to us. JOHN L. WEBB Director of Personnel HAROLD W. DAVIDSON Director of Public Relations MRS. MARY C. HERSHEY R. s. MINSKER E. P. WATERHOUSE Director of Health and Safely Director of Curriculum Director of Building and Grounds
