Mr. Schmelzel's Assistants The boys in Mr. Schmelzel's office help him in many ways. They answer the phone, run errands, and look after the affairs when he is away. They file cards, return books to shelves, keep the b u l l e t i n boards up to date, and various other things. One of the girls usually takes care of the library dur- ing the summer under the sup- ervision of Miss Louise An- thony, Directorg public school libraries in Alton. Office Assistants Each hour five students assist the office help by run- ning errands and collecting absence slips. Since the switch- board has been installed an extra student is needed to help place the calls to and from Alton High. Red and Gray Hi-Y This group consists of boys who are interested in creating and maintaining high standards in their school and community life. Bill Eidson, Ralph Scott, Cafeteria Assistants This service organization carrys out such duties as re- placing food in the cafeteria, helping in the disposal unit, cleaning tables, and assisting at the snack bar. ln return for their work they receive their meals free. Camera Club The camera club, sponsored by Mr. Loyd Carr, is composed of stu- dents interested in photography. It tries to teach the fundamentals to the novice. Student Patrol This service organization is composed of students who volunteer to help maintain or- der in the halls and on the campus, mainly during lunch hours. A student captain for each hour aids Mr. Ralph Kober, the sponsor, in check- ing attendance.
