Quill and Scroll This national honorary society for high school journalists includes members of the staffs of both our school publications. the TATLER and the TIMES. The Alton High chapter was reactivated this year after lying dormant for quite a few years. Mr, Bailey and Mrs. lrma Allen were the first semester ad- visors, and after Mrs. Allen left, Mrs. Barbara Zeller took her place. This year members attended a convention of the ISHSPA, and they also sponsored a student assembly which featured Beulah Schacht. columnist for the Globe-Democrat. A field trip to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was taken and en- joyed by the members. Regular meetings are not held, but in- ductions will be presented each fall and spring. N. Future Cosmetologists This club is a newly formed org- anization consisting of girls interested in cosmetology for a career. Practi- cal training through this organiza- tion helps them with their class room study. Row 1: Mrs. Becker. M a r g a r et Beardsmore, Nila Steinman, Mrs. Thompson. Row 2: Jeanne Crawford, Pat Web- ber, Freda Ioyce. Row 3: Betty Hawkins, Ioyce Par' rish, Mary Douglas. Pat Hamilton, Biddie Beckham. Row 4: Evelyn Mason, Dee Hoag- land. Pro and Con This is a debating club of the Alton High School. It was organized and formed largely through the ef- forts of Miss Colonius. The members are all new to debating. but they performed amazingly well in their first contests. Seated: Ted Woodbury, Ken Prewitt, Miss Colonius, Davi Richards, lim Percival. , Standing: Terry D e t e r d i n g, Bill Meyer, Iohn Thies, Bob Denby, Charles Ehlert, lim McBurney, Art Club This newly formed club consists of students interested in the Art De- partment.
