Joe Naughton, the Redbird's star left end,
was chosen as one of the four best ends in the
state of Illinois.
He was the only player from the South-
western Conference to receive this honor. Joe
is one of the best all-round players that Alton
has ever had.
His greatest job was that of pass-catching
and place-kicking. By catching passes for
touchdowns and kicking the conversions, Joe
was one of the highest scoring ends ever seen
in this conference. He had a total of 53 points.
As you can see, Joe well deserved the honor
of All-State, and Alton High is very proud of
"A team is only as good as the man who
coaches it" has often been wisely said. For a
team only becomes championship caliber when
the players have been Carefully selected and
long and patiently taught by expert coaches.
Since Alton this year has had the unusual
record of two conference championships, the
credit should go to the men who coached
To Ray Jackson, our Director of Athletics,
a winning team is a habit. He has produced
so many championship teams during his years at
Alton that it is taken for granted that Alton
High's football team will always be a strong
contender for southwestern conference honors.
To George Ingles goes the credit for our
first southwestern basketball championship in
21 years. He worked hard and long to bring
this honor to us.
Alton High School is indeed fortunate to
have these men as coaches.
