Second row: Jim Beall, Carl Platter, Nick Brown, Franklin Harrison, John Schoppet, joseph Waide.
Third row: Herman Bockstruck, Max Olson, Craig Beane, Bob Bruce, Jim Stallings, Warren Elsner.
Considering that this is the first year that
Alton High School has participated in track for
several years, the season as a whole can be conf
sidered a success although only one meet was
won. Success in track depends to a considerable
extent upon experience which you can say the
boys were getting this year, under the guidance
of Coach Jureziz.
Nothing spectacular was expected from the
boys this year, although several boys showed
promise of developing into better than average
track men. These are: Kenneth DeSherlia, James
Coleman, Ray Platter, and Gilbert Whitten who
are not graduating and will be back for next
year's squad and Dick Yeakey, James Stallings,
John Shoppet, and Edward Blair who graduate.
First Row: Bill Tuggle, Ellston Campbell, Ray Simpson.
Second row: James Stallings, Don Hill, john Flexon.
Doubles team of Simpson and Campbell won
District doubles crown at Collinsville. ,They
scored enough points to share top honors with
Belleville and Granite City.
Simpson and Campbell were taken to the
State meet and won their first set 6f2, but lost
the match to a Chicago team when the upfstate
boys cut loose with too much drive.

Victor "Vic" Schwartz
"Vic" Schwartz came to us from Roosevelt
Junior High three seasons ago. His size, speed,
and football sense soon showed up and "Vic"
made an end position secure his first year in senior
high. Heighth and speed always made "Vic" a
good target for passes and even his first season
he received his share of passes. In his junior and
senior years "Vic" served as "captain" band each
season showed him to be a better player than the
last preceding season-in fact game by game he
improved. The Tatler hereby honors another "Allf
State" player of Alton High, a product of merit.
Honors won by Schwartz were: 3 high school
