Quill Eff Scroll
The Quill E99 Scroll is a journalistic honor society,
international in scope. The Lovejoy Chapter, a
charter member of the organization, was establishf
ed April 4, 1927.
Students eligible for membership must have
done creditable work on either of the school
publications, The Times or the Tatler. The
purpose of the Quill Es? Scroll is to instill in students
the ideal of scholarship, to advance the standards

better journalists and by developing a high code
of ethics to promote exact and dispassionate

National Honor Society
Under the sponsorship of Miss Cates the
Alton Chapter of the National Honor Society,
an organization similar to the Phi Beta Kappa of
universities and colleges, has been in existence
for 13 years.
The purpose of the society is to create an
enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire
to render service, to promote worthy leadership,
and to encourage development of character in
the students of Alton High,

Cnly fifteen per cent of the 4fl class who
rank in the upper third and who have been
rated in leadership, service, and character by the
faculty are eligible for membership.
The society meets regularly once a month to
transact business or to hear a speaker invited by
the club. It also inducts new members at the
end of each semester and engages in one social affair
