football Lettermen il, 1 CARL BAILEY, junior, playing his hrst regular season in the backfield gave a good account of his previous year's training when much of this year's team served as the scrimmage group to oppose the '35 "Steam Roller" Championship eleven. Bailey said, "I used to think it great to be on the squad that played against "Fat." My biggest thrill came when I found I had won a chance to start with Harrison on the Hrst team." CHARLES TACKWELL, sophomore, 135 pounds and the lightest man to hold the center position in the history of present day athletics of Alton High was playing his Hrst season of high school football and did a line piece of work Charlie too found a thrill in football He said In the Collinsville game when Fat called for a punt formation to try for a field goal I was excited but got a pass back that was set up and Fat s toe put the bill over the bar for 3 points BILL BUND yunior was ilso playing his second season on the squad and got into enough battles to win both his spurs and a letter Bill should be a regular fixture in next vear s line A little more height and weight this year would have put Bill into the regular starting line up A Bill looked over the football season yust closing he said The biggest thrill of the season is aw fully hard to name There were many thrills BAILEY TACKWELL but Ill pick the Granite City game although we BUND BROWN lost 1213 ROBERT BROWN junior playing his first season drew a place in the line and did a good iob of it being dependable and reliable along with ability to take it as well as dish it out In other words Brown fitted into the scheme of things on defense as well as offense A year to grow in both height and weight will make Brown a tougher guy to stop than he was this year I do not know that I can pick out any single play of the season that was the most thrilling The entire season was a thrill to me X. -es-"WX 61 ' 9 , " . . . . ,, . 9 ' 1 . - .t -- tt 1 Q1 I Y - it L . , , ' 2 . . . , ' ' . Keith said My greatest thrill came in the Wood River game when the play called for me to at' tempt a pass to Harrison. Fat got there where I threw the ball-a completed pass on my first attempt. Z JAY TRAVIS junior had a chance for his first full year as a regular and then in the fourth game of the season playing against East St Louis R had the worst inyury of the season hurled upon him when he received a dislocated and badly bruised elbow j R said I am saving my thrill for next ye rr when I hope to help make Alton High a winner I want to redeem my self for the fumble in the Eist St Louis game DOUGLAS Hursn junior pliying his Hrst season as a regular won 1 place in the line With a year to grow he should be one fellow in the line with whom opponents will have a world of trouble since this season lust passed Huish was found doing his stuff in a seasoned manner D u a wasn t quite certain what was the most coox TRAWS moment of the season but finally said Hursu MATTHEY h biggest thrill I got this season came in he me we played at Wood River when every body on the squid got into the game Z STANLEY MATTHEY sophomore was playing his first year on the squad and his first year as a regu lar Stan had a little tough luck with illness that threatened to keep him inactive for a while but he soon recovered and fitted into the regular lme up where his weight in the l1ne helped stop opponents Stan sud My biggest thrill came in the Collinsville game when the play called for Fat to try 1 held goal take lt from me it was great to see that try good for 3 points 60 1 tt 1 ns N -1 3 7 V23 .
