BASKETBALL SEASON OF 1928 29
The call for basketball was answerd by but 'five fellows from last year and only
one of them Captun Hersh jones was one of last year s regulars Coach Maller had
were played an Altons own gym Nevertheless Coach Maller expected 1 good
season and worked toward that end
Alton played her Hrst game an a close hard hght wath Edwardsvalle at the dedacataon
of the new gym on December 1 1928 and won 16 15 but the game was non conference
Larry Hale one of the best centers an the conference was taken out near the end of the
game wath a broken r1b Shortly after th1s accadent Hale sustaaned a broken arm and was
permanently removed from athletacs for the rem under of the season
Our second game was wath Collansvalle and the Maners beat us 2617 Th1S was
our first conference game
The tharcl game perhaps made us feel best of all because we got a comeback at our
old fraendly enemy Western Malatary Academy and beat the1r quantet 42 18 due much
to the bralllant performances of Bub Hale and Elsenreach
Wath 1 19 17 hnal score an our favor we won the thard vactory of the season and the
second vactory over Edwardsvalle th1s tame a conference game
The next week Alton s team greatly surprased atself by beatang East St Louls 20 14
on s Rose and Owsley flashed some beautaful floor work for Alton Hagh Owsley was
hagh poant man for Alton wath 16 poants whale Rensh aw starred for East St Louas

All spaankled wath wee flowers
The path that leads the crooked vu
Along a larooklet s hed
We ll tread the path agfun today

To greet the Qprang
And hand an hand we ll laugh and lean
To pull a xaolet from ate Qod
And realaze walent that we xt Qeen
