We chose for our main theme in this '59 STINGER the subject,
trees. It is our sincere hope that in the years that follow, the 1959
STINGER will remind you, pleasantly, of your high school years -
-- yourstudies, activities, the lighter moments of dates and par-
ties, and always of that particular spirit and pride which all of us
feel toward Alto High School.
We would like to extend our special thanks to Mr. James
Grammer for his excellent photography work, Mrs. R. E. Rossman
for her excellent work on the table of contents page, and Mr.
Richard Johnson for his help in writing up one of the pages in this
yearbook, We would also like to express our appreciation to the
advertisers and our sponsor, Mrs. Hull.

During the years when understanding and patience were most needed, no
other person has so exemplified these qualities toward the student body as Mrs.
Jo Frances Weimar.
Though busy with her work which involves duties both at school and in the
many homes, she has found time to advise and counsel all who are exposed to
her persuading personality.
Her many and varied responsibilities in County, District, and State organi-
zations have served to better equip Mrs, Weimar in understanding our problems,
and serving the school and community.
To this very wonderful person we dedicate the STINGER for 58-59.

Dear Students:
The study and experimenting with the atom has made this a complex world. In-
dividuals today are required to learn how the rest of the world functions in order to
remain a free nation. The old theory of the survival of the fittest is more prominent
today than when the study was completed. Democracy is still an idea to be nourished
and improved until it has spreadto all nations. The idea of a free world is not a new
idea because our forefathers in founding the New Nation and in writing the constitution
of the United States embedded this idea as one of its major principles. I hope you
students understand democracy and what it means to you and future generations.
You, the students in the Alto Public Schools, have contributed toward making
this community, state, and nation a better place to live. I know that you will con-
tinue to contribute toward society because you have shown the spirit of willingness to
cooperate and respect of fellowman in your school activities.
Life is a constant challenge, and as you continue to grow in stature, wisdom, and
knowledge, I know you will accept this challenge as the graduates faced the obstacles
and accepted the challenge of their day.
Sincerely yours,
Lawrence Smith
Superintendent
Dear Students:
To each of you on this joyous occasion may I wish the
best of everything in your life to come.
As you become Seniors, this book becomes a veritable
storehouse of memories -- those fondest dreams of days gone
by.
In the days to come may you recall those pleasant mem-
ories one by one as you turn those pages and remember friends
of days gone by.
Sincerely yours,
George T . Williams

The halls of A,H,S. are lighted brightly, and the purpose of this occasion is a class reunion of the
Senior Class of 1958-59. As we slip quietly in a side door, we can hear many different remarks being
made by the students as they greet old friends,
Granville Adams, the first man to go to Mars, is telling a group of his former classmates that green
cheese really does take the place of vitamins.
Shirley Derrett, now a fashion model on Saks 5th Avenue in New York, interrupts the conversation
to tell Dannie Felder, the current rage of the nation, that his newest record, "The Rocket Rock, " is in
her opinion "the greatest."
As we move on, we hear June Jones, who has been voted "The World's Most Perfect Housewife"
talking to Ray Covington, who now owns all the forests in three states, about the "good old days. "
The ex-president of the Senior Class, Marshall Ray Bynum, has invented a television phone and he
explains plans for a secret model to Sonja Bauman, who is the outstanding fashion designer of Paris,
Sonja has replaced the famous designer Dior,
A loud crash is heard, and startled everyone turns to the door just in time to see Bennie Ross Lloyd,
formerly the "Big Bopper", stepping out of his pink rocket. Bennie flew in from the Moon and on the
way down, he stopped to pick up Melvin Hahn, the famous scientist who was orbiting in space, to make
this retmion.
When everyone has quieted down, we see Hallene Allen approach the stage to do the dance routine
she does in the latest Broadway Musical, "My Lady Fair,"
As soon as she finishes, David Rice, Texas Governor, makes a speech concerning the speed of
rockets in the air and their safety.
To get the program back on the light side E. I. Holcomb, better known as "Hot Lips Holcomb"
gives a jazz rendition of his latest trombone solo.
Jo Ann Findley, head of the Why and Because Department for the President of the United States,
explains to the group just why Russia blew itself off the map.
Martha Moses, who has become famous for her dramatic voice, says the latest recording of her
voice will be sent to the new President of Jupiter, Billy Don Maddux, as a reward for his defeating eight
spacemen for the Presidency.
Tommy Williams, world-famous All Star Football player, for every college in America, tells
Mary Jane Grogan, columnist for the newspapers in England, some vital information for her column.
Jerry Corbin, Academy Award Winner for the Best Actor in Hollywood, tells the group about his
latest movie, AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY SFIIONDS,
To end the program Mrs. Weimar is voted the "Outstanding Home Economics Teacher" of the Uni-
verse. Mr. Mayes, famous mathematician tells of his formula for the first rocket back in the year 1960.
The crowd begins to scatter and the lights dim. Then all is in blackness and A. H. S. stands lonely
and expectantly awaiting another class reunion.

We, the Senior Class of 1959, being of good health and sound of mind, do declare, that on this day
as we leave the halls of A,H.S,, this is to be our last will and testament. We do solemnly declare that
the sole heirs and benefactors of our last written words are the Junior Class of 1959.
The president of the Senior Class, Marshall Ray Bynum leaves his outstanding ability never to be
heard in class to Carlton Jones and Tony Tullis, in hopes that they will take heed.
Hallene Allen leaves her witty remarks and winning smile to Pansy Ruth King and Joyce McGaughey,
so that they might brighten the paths of those around them.
Jerry Corbin leaves his ability to forget many important figures concerning the business part of the
Annual to Mike Felder in hopes he might profit by Jerry's mistakes.
To Renna Todd and Barbara Harris, Melvin Hahn leaves his skillful management of conducting his
own classes in the office. To Jimmy Brunt, he leaves his position at the Humble Station so that Jimmy
might attract many new customers.
Jo Ann Findley leaves the problem of editing the Annual to Carolyn Jeter so that Carolyn might heed
Jo's advice in compiling the yearbook next year. Io also leaves her ability to have a cluttered locker to
Birda Dixon, with best wishes on finding anything in her locker.
Martha Moses leaves her ability never to say the right thing or to talk at the proper time to Jalna
Whiteman in hopes she will profit by Martha's bungles. To Ethelda Black and La Verne lvie, she leaves
her job as study hall keeper and school librarian. J
To Robbie Robinson and Linda Collins, Shirley Derrett, leaves the facts, formulas, and figures of
Algebra, which she never knew or has since forgotten,
David Rice leaves his ability to always get in trouble with Mr. Williams to Tommy Cummings and
Billy Doyle Lindsey, with the old motto, "Three Days or Three Licks. "
Sonja Bauman leaves her skillful management as Head Cheerleader in backing the Jackets, to Nancy
Boyd in hopes she will receive as much enjoyment as Sonja has experienced.
Granville Adams leaves his quiet shy personality to Jerry Felder and Kenneth Ratliff. He hopes that
the people arotmd them may have peace.
Bennie Ross Lloyd leaves the worries of the Jacket's Buzz to Merry Cosper with the instructions to
think of her own by-line. He adds his ability to make wise -cracks in Civics.
June Jones leaves her ability to be the perfect housewife to Ida Pearl Haney with expectations that
it might be put to use in the near future,
Tommy Williams leaves to Gale Baugh his skillful thinking to outmaneuver his opponents in the
athletic field.
To Foster McClain, Billy Don Maddux leaves his skill in basketball. He also leaves his ability to
always have a secret romance,
Dannie Felder leaves his ability to laugh and make light of any situation he may face in life. To
Ronnie Hendricks is given this honor. -
E. J. Holcomb leaves his knowledge of music of the trombone to Barbara French, in hopes
she will join the band and go to state. To Lee Rushing, he leaves his ability to charm the girls and
keep them in a stew.
Mary Jane Grogan leaves her position of paper reporter to Peggy Sue Selman, with the instructions
to always have the best gossip.
To Dorothy Dover, Ray Covington leaves his ability to always disagree on any subject in hopes
she will cause as many disturbances as he has.
As the years go by, we, the Senior Class of 1959, hope that the Juniors will treasure these gifts and
we sincerely hope we will be remembered at A. H. S. always and forever.
