Fix your eyes upon the moon as we joumey into the future, It is 1965, Alto has been the county seat of Cherokee County for nine years now, Since the discovery of gold on Mr, Boone's vast ranch, it has become a fast-developing city with population of 150, 000. And what does this sign say? Of course, we should have known, Where else would we find the '55 seniors but in "Debtor's Court, " It seems that the seniors never paid back the Sl, 99 that they borrowed from Mr, Draw- horn way back in gay ole '55, He has summoned the entire group to court in order to collect the fortune at stake, The courtroom quietens as the judge raps for order, As the case begins, a distinguished-looking ' gentleman rushes in and sits down beside me, At a second glance, I realize that it is R, L, Cherry, late as usual, Quickly we become engaged in conversation, It seems that he has become the friendly under- taker operating the very successful "Cheery Cherry Funeral Home, " He assures us that he would be the last one to let his previous classmates down while they are in Debtor's Court, Mr, Cherry is accompanied by his dear wife whom most of us will remember as Phoebe Quarles, Phoebe is the supervisor of nurses in the Nan Travis Hospital, She helps R, L, 's business along by sending her victims to him, There is Earl Haney, He is now the manager of a new drive-in theatre in Alto called the "Passion Pit, " Seeing Earl reminds us of the recent movie showing at the "Passion Pit, " It stars that sensational new star, Vaughn "Hot Lips Arn- old' in an exciting love story titled, "Young Man With a Horn, " Vaughn will be remembered as the talented trumpeter who gave such an outstanding performance in the 1955 senior play, "Desperate Ambrose, " Glanc- ing around the courtroom, I see none other than that famous typist, Alvaleane White, who holds the world speed record in typing with 200 words per minute while still in high school, She acquired this skill under the able direction of Professor Gary Burke, Six-foot two, eyes of blue! That is Olan Black who is now a professional basketball player appearing with- that great team, the Harlem Globe Trotters, We hear a clat- ter disturbing the peacefulness of the courtroom, Rushing to the window, we see a trailer house followed by two, four, six, eight, kids on the outside and no telling how many more inside, It looks as if Vema Mae and the children are still following "Red" around from army camp to army camp, As things quieten down I notice Mr, and Mrs, George Covington, George is the famous private detective now working on the case of "Who's got the missing part to the water fountain, " His wife, the former Betty Moses, is noted for her mag- nificent development of the "Needle less Lolly-pop Pine" while working at Anderson's Nursery, Over in the corner I spot someone in a wheel chair with bandages from head to foot. It is that famous stock car racer, Bobby Burrows, After surviving the dangers of the Indianapolis Speedways for the past seven years, he had a small argument with his wife, Billie Jean, and ended up in this condition, Billie Jean is better known as the 'Atomic Darling, " woman wrestling champion of the world, There is Larry Davis accompanied by the little men in the white jackets, Poor Larry became a little bit unbalanced when his head got caught in a cement mixer, It didn't hurt his head but it surely did ruin that cement mixer, which, incidentally, was his only source of income, Look! Over there is Liberace and his charming 23rd wife, Bobbie Jean, She will be remembered as one of the winners of the junior class talent show, Now Bobbie Jean and Liberace are very happy playing duets on the piano, We hear a yell, "Duck and Cover" followed by an explosion outside the courtroom, Oh, it is just that famous scientist, Joseph Tullis, experi- menting with a miniature "Z" Bomb, And there is that gorgeous model, Mildred Jones, who was crowned 'Miss America of 1965. " All of the men should get a thrill out of this, Who is that distinguished-looking man in the uniform? Why it is Ford Johnson, After nine years in the army he is a Pfc, In spite of this he has become an accomplished hand at peeling potatoes, Looking to my right, I see Norma Coleman who is now head cheerleader at West Point, That must be quite an honor, Carroll McGaughey enters the court- room with an armload of blueprints, It seems that Carroll was summoned to Court from his job of cons- tructing a super highway between the thriving cities of Alto and Rusk, Immediately after finishing his civil engineering course at A 8s M--Carroll was asked to re-direct the flow of Niagara Falls, and to supervise re- pairs on the Angelina River Bridge, All the girls in the crowd swoon as Summers Hassell enteres the court- room, Summers is the famous crooner who has taken Eddie Fisher's place ill popularity, And, there is the president of Baylor University, Mr, Bobby Carl Boyd, His wife, Edna Myrl is working at '1The Silver Slip- per, " a nightclub in Las Vegas, while waiting for their divorce to become legal, As I look about me, I see Miss Watters, After many years of teaching English in Alto High School she has discovered her true love, Now she is teaching mathematics in Rusk High School, Sitting next to Miss Watters is Mr, Cummings, Mr, Cummings has become quite famous since he crossed a pig with a chicken and developed a pigkin, Amid the confusion, the judge cannot decide what to fine each one so he allows the ex-seniors to take up a collec- tion, It looks as if the '55 seniors will have paid their debts at last, The spell has ended, the nightmare is over and we are once again in the present, But I, on behalf of the jtmiors of 1955, would like to say this, "We expect you seniors to live up to our predictions. Only please pay Mr, Drawhom that 51, 99 so that I won't have to go through this again, " lad 70dlaad7 We, the Senior Class of Alto High Class of Nineteen Hundred Fifty-five, Being weak-minded and rather dry, Declare this their last will and testament. To the 'Alto Brat Academy' teachers We leave the hopes of finding other treasures, May their patience and understanding last through the years, So they might give the 'up and coming ones' our same fears. The loud mouth of the Senior class Has finally met his match, Ford is forced to will to Willard His ability to get in the 'Booby Hatch. " Sweater girls are necessary everywhere Especially when looking for a man, Edna Myrl has finally consented to reveal her secret To Virginia and Rosie Ann, Mighty Mite Joseph wills to "Little Rice" His pleasing personality and manners so nice His towering height and perfect build, And his number 12 shoe that is perfectly filled. The boys will miss around A,H,S, Billie Jean Selman's face, She is proud to give the honorable Bonnie and Nancy her place, Old A,H, S, 's Howard Keel Is Bobby Glenn Burrows, the big wheel, But jmt think next year who you'll see in his place, None other than that handsome James Earl Wallace's fa The dramatic ability of Olan Black He leaves to Billy Lee, In hopes that next yearis Senior play A success may also be, The Junior Class' sweetest treasure Alvaleane presents with greatest pleasure Her ability to keep all the boys away, Now Martha, you must heed what she might say, The famous athletic record of Bobby "Bully" Boyd ls bequeathed to the one and only Cary Wayne. It is understood that it is to be bettered Or, at least kept the same, CB, We all know how Dan would like to be popular with the girls, He would run and jump at their every whim, Let us all offer congratulations to the lucky boy 'cause Summers has asked that his title "Dream Boy of A, H,S,' be left to him, Of all the sweet dreams in study hall Earl Haney's really top them all, His ability to snore and nod his head Is left to Leonard and Billy Fred, The Daniel Webster of Alto High Is none other than Larry Davis. His dictionary of correct words he leaves to Don Jones, Maybe he can add some more words after Larry is gone. R, L, leaves to Jimmy Lavender His unfinished bottle of wine, For since he started going with girls, Who has time to dine. 13 What is Raymond's favorite pasdmez Could it be chewing gum? Then take a look under Vaughn Henry's geometry desk You'll find a plenty and then some, Because she is always hurrying, Joy Beth is usually unnerved, To her Verna Mae leaves some calm manners. This way everyone can get served, Have you ever heard Ally Oop blow his nose? Well, Carroll McGaughey is just as bad, To Jerry Jean he leaves this asset, With hopes that he doesn 't drive everyone mad. To Jean Ann and Cynthia Betty and Phoebe leave their dearest treasures, The STINGER, and the "Jacket's Buzz, " In hopes that they will bring them many pleasures, His alluring ways with seventh grade girls George now leaves to Hugh K, May, We know you're handsome and all that, Hugh Kenneth, My goodness, what will people say? Billie Ann and Lucille Are presented by Mildred Ann A gleaming set of her pearly, white teeth Now maybe they can catch a man, Her ability to be ,general "Flunky" And do fifty things at one time Is bequeathed to Sara Nell and Betty Jo by Bobbie Jean. Who knows, they may get along fine, Miss Roberson and Mr. Thomas we know Just hate to part With the Junior Class they have now, May it ever remain in their hearts. The Senior Class leaves with great regret The sweetest treasures ever found yet, Miss Watters and Mr, Cummings you guessed it too, We hate to give, them up to you, Since Dorthy is lacking in one trait With which Norma Lue is great She says she'll leave with her Her ability to keep the boys in a stir. Since Mr, Drawhorn has been the happy recipient Of all our debts unpaid We gladly issue him a 51,000 check If he can collect it in the next raid, To get his wavy hair back They have already left him brushes and wigs So, our advice, Mr. Boone is Try some of that stuff that makes the hair rise You know, that T, C, special that you drink in great big swrgs Of all the years we have been in school The last has been the best We are wondering now about the next year Are you going to pass the test? We think you will make good Seniors You won't have to worry and fret, Your school year will always be pleasant .IUNIORS f 4. fs, S .K as-Q 5t'm,,' M9 ein 'go uv X Q A .AID ew, 91" 1 XM 'A ,gg-.gmifQ2sfi5iii?7. if fm ,v,, ,L ,Maw 8 I?--.I'-Z ggi is N , , f z' 15? Ready to give advice, nor angry when You take the same old beaten path again, No pendulum betwixt the good and ill, But standing firmly, duty to fulfill, Willing to pardon ere the word is said, Just to the living, reverent to the dead, ADVERTISERS , f , M vial- 'H Q 5 V W W' f :ilk f 'f Qi? 5' ..Ah,. .
