The Athlete 61 Football 76 A hopeful effort, a hard schedule, and tough breaks combined to finish the 1976 Crusader football season with a 6-4 record. It was a season of ups and downs, experiencing both thrills of vic¬ tory and the agony of defeat. Although opening the season los¬ ing to rival Belleville West, the Crusaders proceeded to win the next five straight games including Belleville East. Hopes for state play-offs went down the drain in a decisive game against Granite City North in which the weather prevailed. Despite los¬ ing to Desmet in the Crusader’s last appearance in the annual Busch Stadium Classic, Althoff finished the season winning against Cahokia. You’ll have days of laughter, and you’ll meet days of tears; You’ll long for more sunshine through some of the years. You will want to go back and relive a lost past. You’ll be wishing you hadn’t lived youth quite so fast. We shall miss you and think of you for yet a long while; We shall weep when you weep and smile when you smile.
