mior Glass History
As graduation day draws near, we find that we have reached the end of our journey
together. Let us pause and turn back the years to the time when we were first wonder-
ing at the splendor of high school.
As "lowly freshmen, " we were initiated in the customary manner. It may have
been rather embarrassing, but we really loved every minute of it. We elected as
president, Sheila Van Eck: as vice-president, Richard Ogsbury: as secretary, Larry
McGrathg and as treasurer, Margie Deschenes. Our major activities during our fresh-
man year were the sale of banners, hats, and emblems, and our highly successful
amateur show.
In our sophomore year, we elected Dick Teter as president, Jim Willey as vice-
president, Larry McGrath as secretary, and Betty Bailey as treasurer. Student council
representatives were Sheila Van Eck and Dick Ogsbury. During our sophomore year,
we held skating parties and hayrides which will be long remembered.
When we were juniors, we elected Margie Deschenes as president, Barbara Weeks
as vice-president, Gail Pennoyer as secretary, and Sheila Van Eck as treasurer. Stu-
dent council representatives were A1 Witter and Betty Bailey. We put on a mystery-
comedy, "The Ghost Chaser." Also, there were movies, hayrides, and dances, and
not to be forgotten, the pride and joy of getting o11r long-awaited class rings.
At the end of our junior year, we elected officers for our senior year. They were
Al Witter, presidentg Larry McGrath, vice-president: Margie Deschenes, secretaryg
Sheila Van Eck, treasurerg and Barbara Weeks and Al Witter, student council repre-
sentatives.
In September, 1953, we were seniors at last. Through the years we dwindled
down to ten in number, for this fall two of our classmates, John Smithies and Larry
McGrath, left to join the Marines. In the spring of 1954, we had our senior play,
"Woman Called 'X', " which proved to be an entertaining mystery.
This year we learned that we were to be the last class to graduate from Altamont
High School. We have gone through many years in this small red -brick building, and
we really hate to leave. The walls hold memories, hopes, loves, and dreams which
never will be told.
Now we are closing the book of the past and looking on to the future - plans for
college, marriage, or business - as we say "Good-bye to those hallowed halls of ivy. "
