Dedication
Our Parent Teacher Association had its beginning in 1924
long before the beginning of the atomic era. Mrs. Pearl
S. Ireland, deceased, whose picture appears on this page
with those of the other presidents, served as its first pre-
sident. '
Through the years this association of interested parentsand
teachers has provided nuclear energy in their generous sup-
port of the physical and intellectual growth of theAltamahaw
Ossipee School.
It is with pride and thanks that we dedicate this 1953 edition
of the TOMAHAWK to the ALTAMAHAW OSSIPEE PARENT
TEACHER ASSOCIATION AND ITS LEADERS.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I salute and congratulate you, Class of '53, In
this atomic era in which you have been thrust,
I wish to remind you that the presence of the
atom and of hydrogen is not new. It's possibili-
ties have been here since the Infinite set tl'-ings
in order, but man has only recently tapped
upon it. This new era is but a reminder that
there are many new and exciting worlds left fO
you to conquer.
We bid you good-by with love and hope believing
that when your energy is released upon society
even the atom will be influenced.

CLASS SONG
fTu.ne-The Marine's Hymn,
From the halls of A. O. High School
To the shores of lands unknown,
We are atoms giving our farewell,
To the neutrons and protons.
We already know that we shall face
Times of conflicts and of strife.
But dear A. O. gave us confidence
That will guide us through our life.
We have gone together through the years
Through laughter and through tears.
We cherish every memorable thing
That we're leaving behind us here.
We now give our thanks to every one
Who has led us on our way,
But, as for you, dear A. O. High School
You are in our hearts to stay.

of 1953
Traveling around in a rocket recently, we sped over a place that was very familiar to us all.
We were looking upon our dear Alma Mater. Here it was that we shared experiences together,
most of them goodp some, bad. It was here that we experienced the days of high prices, tragic
years of World War II, the dreaded Korean situation, and the election of General Dwight D. Eisen-
hower as our national leader. Many of our electrons fell by the wayside, some of our protons
and neutrons disappeared into the mysterious realm of space, but the nucleus remained--remained
to develop the atoms.
We enjoyed A. O. 's numerous activities. We rendered our services to the Student Council, to
the Hub and to the Tomahawk staffs. We participated in sports, enjoyed an adequate physical
education program, took part in dramatics, and music, and became members of various clubs.
We saw a dream come true--we witnessed the beginning and completion of the Marvin E. Yount
Gymnasium. Our gratitude of love and appreciation was expressed by our gift to the school--
four cross- goals added to our new gym.
This, we feel, was only the beginning of a growing education. This was the foundation--a firm
foundation--for our first goal of achievement. Our hearts linger fondly on the students, the teach-
ers, and the principal who contributed so much of their ability, patience, time, and understand-
ing so that we, the Class of '53, may go out into this world, able to face this speeding time of
Atomic Energy unafraid.

SCHOOL SONG
Dear school of ours, so beloved,
Our hearts to thee we now pledge.
By thee we always will stand
And heed each one of thy commands
We have many wondrous truths
That thou has given to us,
Great hopes so bright
That fill us with delight.
As we go along our way
Here's to our dear A-O school,
Loyal we'll ever be.
Our colors of white and blue
Will always show that we are true.
Though years may come and go,
Still will our memories cling
To our dear A-O school,
Loyal friends and teachers too,
And we'll always ling thy praise.
